Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 233

Chapter 233

Meadow was amazed by his remarkable healing abilities. The doctor had given the wound three days to heal because Ethan was an

Alpha, but Ethan’s wound had healed in two. Echo was eager to come out. Meadow could feel it sometimes, that restless energy beneath Ethan’s calm. His wolf was not fully back, but he was pushing. Healing. Fighting. Returning. It made her hopeful and afraid

at the same time because the faster Ethan improved, the harder it would be for him to stay still.

“Victoria is around,” Ethan said.

Meadow gasped with surprise. For a moment, her whole face lit in a way Ethan had not seen enough. She knew Ethan must have sent for her. He had thought of her need for comfort, for familiarity, for someone she loved and trusted in a house that had begun

to feel unsafe. That touched her deeply.

“Thank you,” she linked him.

Ethan laughed.

“Come on, go and shower and join me for breakfast. We will be eating in the room. Joseph went to buy food from a nearby restaurant. We have decided to buy food from random restaurants for now because you and Elaine need to train, so there won’t be

time for cooking,” he said.

Meadow nodded, understanding he had a point. The idea of eating from random restaurants was not ideal, but it was safer than trusting the kitchen blindly while they still did not know who had poisoned Amber or how the poison had entered her system. She and Elaine needed to train too. There was no time to become full-time cooks for everyone when war was already breathing down the

walls. Every choice now had to serve survival.

Meadow was still in the bathroom when Joseph brought the meal. Ethan set the table carefully. He moved slowly, not wanting to strain his back, but he hated doing nothing, so even arranging food felt like a small rebellion against helplessness. When Meadow was still inside, Ethan told her through the link that he needed to do something outside with Joseph. She linked him that it was alright, trusting him enough not to argue, and the brothers headed out.

There was a woman at the entrance of the mansion.

Ethan noticed her before they reached her properly. She looked like a peasant. Her clothes were plain and worn, her body carried the nervous stiffness of someone who knew she was standing in a place above her station, and her eyes moved too quickly between him and Joseph. But they had to be careful. However unkempt she might be, they could not underestimate her. The past few days had taught them that danger did not always come dressed like danger. Sometimes betrayal bowed. Sometimes poison came through kitchens. Sometimes a messenger looked harmless until the words she carried changed everything.

“Alpha,” the woman said, bowing to Ethan and Joseph.

Both brothers became attentive. The woman looked nervous, and they knew she was uncomfortable. Her hands twisted together, and she kept glancing behind her as if she feared someone might appear and stop her from speaking.

“Speak. No one would hurt you,” Ethan said.

Chapter 233

His voice was firm but not harsh. The woman nodded and braced herself.

“I was wondering if the reward money is still available for the person that saw what happened to Alan Wilde,” she said.

The mention of the eyewitness who got killed piqued their interest immediately. Ethan and Joseph exchanged a brief look. Alan

Wilde. The dead witness. A loose thread from a mess that had never been fully settled. If this woman had seen something, even

something small, it could matter.

“Yes, it is,” Joseph said.

The woman seemed glad, and that hope on her face made Ethan pay closer attention. Desperation made people brave. It also made

them lie sometimes. They would have to listen carefully.

“I was in the woods picking mushrooms, facing the main road, when a huge brown Alpha wolf knocked something off the road. It was fast and quick, but I saw it. It was a person on a motorcycle. The wolf bit the man and dragged him into the woods,” she said.

Ethan went still. A huge brown Alpha wolf. A person on a motorcycle. A quick attack from the road into the woods. It was not enough, but it was more than they had before.

“Other wolves joined, and then a black van came and took the man with the brown wolf away along with the victim’s motorcycle,”

she continued.

Joseph’s expression hardened.

“They left the corpse lying in the woods by the roadside. I did not see the face of the man with the brown wolf,” she said.

It was a vague explanation, and that frustrated them. They had many brown wolves in Whitewood, but not all were Alphas. Even then, it would lead nowhere if they questioned every brown Alpha wolf in the pack. The culprit might not even be from their pack. The black van was useful, maybe. The motorcycle being taken was useful, maybe. The fact that other wolves joined meant it was organised. But there was still no face. No name. No clear scent. No firm direction.

Joseph looked at the woman, who stared at him eagerly. She wanted the information to matter. She needed it to matter.

“Why did you come now?” he asked her.

He was not being cruel. He needed to know. If she had seen the attack, why stay silent until now? Why come only after everything in Whitewood had become even more dangerous?

Her smile dropped immediately.

“I was scared, but now my child is dying and needs medical help, so have to be brave to save her life,” she said.

Joseph sighed.

That answer shifted something in him. Fear made sense. A poor woman seeing wolves drag a body into the woods would not run to the mansion eagerly and speak against dangerous people. Not unless need became stronger than fear. And a dying child could make
