For a second, Cynthia felt even more alone, but she forced the feeling down. She did not need weakness now. Not from her wolf. Not

from herself. Sebastien was gone. The Alpha was waiting. Whitewood was the next step. She had to focus.

While Cynthia got ready, a call came on her phone, and it was from the Alpha. She stared at the screen for one brief second before

answering. The timing felt too perfect. Sebastien had just left, wounded and warning her, and now the man at the centre of

everything was calling to give her instructions.

He sounded formal and instructed her on what to do. There was no warmth in his voice. No flirtation. No softness from the

conversation the night before. Just command. He also told her warriors would escort her to the McCloud mansion and told her t

hand the pack over to Levi when she arrived.

“If I hand over to Levi, won’t that mean Luna Amber will still be Luna?” she said, wondering what was in it for her.

The question came before she could stop it. She needed to know her place. If Levi was in charge, then where did that leave her? She had not risked everything to walk into Whitewood as a messenger or errand woman. She wanted title. Recognition. Power. The Alpha had dangled the possibility of being Luna before her, and now she needed to understand whether he meant it.

“Levi does not own the pack. He is just to report to me henceforth. You will name yourself Luna. I am only putting Levi in charge because he isn’t a McCloud. He is an Alpha that understands how Whitewood runs. He would hold the fort until I am ready to take

over physically,” the Alpha said.

Even though it sounded off to Cynthia, she went with it. It did not sit cleanly in her mind. Levi as the one in charge. Cynthia naming herself Luna. Amber still alive. The McCloud brothers still breathing. Ethan not dead. Joseph not broken enough to be harmless. It sounded messy, but perhaps power always looked messy before it settled. She did not want to question too much and

make him think she was afraid.

“What if they try to attack me?” she asked.

The Alpha laughed.

“They won’t dare it. I own the pack now. They are at your mercy. They will keep their heads down. When I am satisfied, I will kick

them out of the mansion,” he said.

She relaxed a little. That was what she wanted to hear. The McClouds at her mercy. The same family that had looked past her, used her, dismissed her, and rejected her. The same men she had wanted in different ways and failed to keep. She pictured herself

walking through that mansion with warriors behind her, forcing them to watch as she stepped into the position Amber had held. It brought back some of the excitement she had lost when Sebastien left./

“Okay, Alpha,” she said.

“Also, see how you can get close to the McCloud brothers and earn their trust so you can know what they are planning because there is no way those two will stay down,” the Alpha said.

Cynthia almost laughed because the request was insane. Close to the McCloud brothers? Earn their trust? After everything? After returning with Sebastien and helping orchestrate the attack that almost killed their family members and stole their pack? Ethan and Joseph would not trust her if she came weeping blood at their feet. They were proud, angry men, and worse, they were not stupid.

“That is impossible, Alpha. I am their worst enemy right now. I am sure Ethan and Joseph would definitely try to kill me. After all I did, I returned and orchestrated an attack and took over. They aren’t stupid; they wouldn’t even let me close enough to try,” she

said.
