Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 221

Chapter 221

Cynthia wore pants and went to lie down. She wanted to sleep, but her mind was too awake. Her body ached in places she did not want to think about. The room felt too empty without Sebastien and too suffocating with his memory. She lay on the bed, staring at

nothing, when a call came in on her phone.

To her surprise, it was the Alpha.

Her heart gave a hard beat. For a second, she was worried it had something to do with Sebastien. Maybe he had told her one thing and gone straight back to the Alpha. Maybe the Alpha was calling to warn her. Maybe this was another trap. Still, she answered

immediately because delaying would be foolish.

“Cynthia,” the voice said.

She became attentive at once. That voice did something to the air. It demanded focus without raising itself.

“Yes, Alpha,” she said.

“You all did a good job yesterday, so I am calling to commend you,” he said.

Cynthia thanked him politely. Her mind moved behind her voice, searching for what he really wanted. Powerful men did not call only to give praise. Praise was usually the sweet covering over instruction, testing, or manipulation.

“How well do you know Whitewood pack?” he asked.

“Well enough,” she said.

He made a sound of approval, and that small sound made something in her chest lift. Approval from a man like him felt dangerous, but Cynthia had always liked danger when it came with opportunity.

“Very well. I will be sending your boyfriend to take over Ceenas. I want you to oversee things in Whitewood. I will place Levi as the Alpha in charge; he will answer to me,” the voice said.

Cynthia did not know what to tell him.

For a moment, she thought she had misunderstood. Sebastien to Ceenas. Cynthia to Whitewood. Levi as Alpha in charge, answering to the Alpha. That meant she would be inside Whitewood’s centre. It meant she would not be standing behind Sebastion. It meant responsibility. Visibility. Power. It also meant danger because the McClouds were not dead, and Whitewood would not welcome her

with open arms.

“Do not worry; you won’t be going there unaccompanied. Warriors will be with you to help you deal with whoever messes with you,”

he said.

Cynthia eased. That made things better. She doubted the McClouds had the muscles to fight a battle properly now, so she would be safe enough with warriors at her back. Joseph might be angry, Ethan might be alive, and Amber might still breathe, but they were

wounded. Their warriors had scattered or defected. Their surface power had been broken. If she moved carefully, she could make Whitewood bend.

“Have you told Sebastien?” she asked, afraid Sebastien might come and beat her.

“I haven’t. I know you are ambitious, Cynthia, and that is why you wanted to throw yourself at me because you know there is true

power at the top. I am willing to give it a try if you can perform and impress me in Whitewood. I am looking for a Luna who is

strong and can handle matters. I want to see your ability to keep your enemies in check and force their respect. That would make

me decide to mate with you,” he said.

Cynthia went completely still.

For a second, she thought she might be dreaming. The words were too close to everything she wanted. A Luna. A chance. A place

beside true power. Not beside Sebastien, who held her past over her head like a collar. Not beside Joseph, who had been too soft and

too loyal to his family to ever truly choose her the way she wanted. But beside the Alpha. The hidden man who had moved pieces

across packs without showing his face. The man who had resources, influence, and enough confidence to use Sebastien like a tool

and then send him elsewhere.
