Chapter 195
The communication stopped as soon as they noticed his presence. He doubted he would have noticed it if the door had not been left
wide open by the nurse. But now that he had seen it, he could not unsee it. Something had shifted with Meadow. Something he did
not fully understand yet. There was enough happening already, so he filed it away inside his mind and said nothing.`
“Alpha, I came to check on you,” Camila sald with a smile.
Ethan smiled back at her, looking better than any of them had dared hope only hours ago.
“It has not been up to twenty-four hours,” Meadow linked her.
Camila went to Meadow because she understood at once that they did not want anyone to know Meadow could communicate, with
her mind. She did not react openly. She did not glance around in shock or ask questions aloud. She simply moved with the careful
control of someone who had enough sense to protect a secret when it mattered.
“I still need to check,” Camila linked Meadow back.
Meadow got off the couch to give them space. Ethan shifted carefully and turned to his side so Camila could check the wound. Every
movement looked measured. His body was not healed yet, not truly, but there was intention in him again. He was not lying there
like a man waiting for other people to decide his life. Even weak, Ethan still carried the air of an Alpha remembering himself.

Camila peeled off the bandage and gauze carefully. Everyone in the room seemed to hold their breath as she checked the wound.
Keith watched her face more than the wound itself. He needed to see her reaction before she spoke. If there was worry, if something
had gone wrong, he wanted to know immediately.
The skin was red, raw from surgery, but there was progress there. Small perhaps. Early. But real. Camila smiled, and that smile
loosened something in the room. She covered the wound back up with careful hands, then stepped away. Ethan turned back to look
at her.
“Congratulations, Alpha. Your wolf genes have kicked in,” Camila said.
Relief moved through everyone. Not loud relief. Not cheering. Something deeper. Something that entered quietly because they all
knew this was only the first step, but it was a step Ethan had waited seven years to take. His wolf genes had kicked in. His body was
no longer only surviving like a human body would. His nature was pushing back. Healing had begun from somewhere deeper than
medicine.
Then Camila sighed, not sadly, but with the weight of truth following good news.
“There is a possibility your legs will be okay in a month, but using them might be difficult as you have left them for seven years. You will need a physiotherapist to help you regain their use and balance your weight on them, and then you will have to train for
combat again. Your wolf would need a lot of training when he returns fully,” Camila said with a broad grin.
Ethan smiled. It was not the smile of a man intimidated by the work ahead. If anything, it looked like the first spark of hunger Keith
had seen in him since all this began. A month. Therapy. Training. Combat. Words that would scare some men after seven years of

paralysis sounded like a promise to Ethan.
“My wolf is with me,” Ethan said.
Camila’s face lit with real gladness. She knew Ethan’s wolf was not fully awakened yet, but even that was enough. After seven years of absence and forced silence, even a whisper from his wolf was a miracle. It meant he was not alone inside himself anymore.
“The detox?” Ethan asked.
Camila nodded.
“I am working with Dr James’s prescription, so someone would have to go and get the specific brand he requested,” Camila began.
Keith stepped in before she could continue. The words pushed out of him because he could not let them go any further. He knew he
would sound stupid if he did not explain everything. He knew it would look like suspicion without foundation. But he no longer
trusted Dr James. Not after that morning. Not after the way the man had left. Not after Joseph’s call.
