“Please have a seat.”

Camila smiled at Meadow almost despite herself. At least that was one good thing. Meadow had made progress. Real progress. Even if Camila had failed in every other way today, even if what she carried for Ethan turned their world harder, she could still cling to that one piece of light. She had helped her Luna. That mattered. It had to.

Ethan saw enough in her face to understand that what she had come with might not be good. He sat up slowly and properly turned his attention to her.

“Please speak freely. I noticed you are afraid of me. There is no point in being afraid. I won’t hurt you.”

The reassurance only made her throat tighten more.

He said it gently, not like a threat or command softened by politeness, but like a man who already knew what people thought of him and was tired of it. Camila nodded quickly. She knew he had built that fierce reputation for a reason. A man in his position had to. If people stopped fearing him entirely, they would start underestimating him, walking over him, testing boundaries he no longer had the body to enforce the old way. She understood that. Still, understanding did not stop her fear. Not really. Fear was not always logical. And after the day she had just had, she felt made of nerves.

So she took a deep breath and told him everything.

Every bit of it.

She told him what Dr James saw. She told him about the records. The dates. The blurry time stamp. The operation. The shards. She told him how wrong the placement looked, how impossible it seemed for blunt silver pieces to travel with the kind of precision and force needed to bury themselves in his lumbar spine.

By the time she finished, Ethan looked dumbfounded.

He stared at her as though the words had reached him but had not yet fully become real.

“Are you saying they deliberately put silver in my spine to keep me in this condition?”

His voice came out edged, almost livid, but Camila knew that anger was not aimed at her. It was too sharp and too inward for that It was aimed at the possibility. At the insult of it. At the years behind it.

So she answered carefully.

“I am not saying anything, Alpha, but there are discrepancies on your scan date which are really wrong. Your first scan was done after your surgery, and the date on the last scan is blurry. Moreover, the shards in your spine are too blunt to have the precision and velocity to cut through your flesh, muscles and tendons and get embedded in your lumbar spine. It is unheard of. However sharp the metal might be unless it is a bullet or a grenade piece moving at a very high velocity.”
