Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 159

Chapter 159

By the time the car reached the cabin grounds, Camila felt like she had already lived through several bad futures on the toad. She alighted quickly, more out of nervous energy than purpose, and headed straight for Ethan’s cabin. The sooner she told him, the sooner the fear would stop swelling inside her and become something shared. Right now the knowledge felt too large to carry alone.

When she entered, Ethan and Meadow were not in the living room. Instead she found Keith and Elaine there.

“How did it go?”

Keith sounded genuinely happy to see her. Too happy. Too open. The kind of hopeful tone that made guilt stab at her chest at once. After everything that had played through her head on the way back, after all the scenarios she had built and torn apart and rebust/ again, she doubted it would be okay to tell Keith anything first. It was not that she distrusted him. Not exactly. But where she was now, with the information sitting this hot and dangerous in her hands, she only planned on telling Ethan. Let Ethan decide who else should know. Let Ethan carry the burden of spreading the truth if he wanted to. That felt safer. More proper. More contained.

So she swallowed and forced herself to sound composed.

“Where is Alpha?”

She tried to keep her tone level, but Keith noticed immediately that something was wrong. He could smell her fear. She reeked of it. Camila knew wolves noticed things like that too easily. She hated that her body would betray her before her words even had the

chance.

Keith did not call attention to it. He only pointed toward Ethan’s room.

“It wasn’t long before they went inside. I hope you brought good news.”

He smiled as he said it, and Camila nodded because she did not know what else to do. Her lie was weak, and she knew it, but she could not stand there and confess the truth in the open living room either.

Then another awkward fear hit her.

She did not know if knocking on the Alpha’s bedroom would be alright.

It felt too intimate. Too private. She did not want to interrupt in case they were in the middle of something important. And somehow, after everything she had learned and everything she still had to say, the thought of walking in on tenderness felt worse. Not because it was wrong. But because it would make what she carried feel even uglier by contrast.

So she turned back to Keith with a tight expression.

“Please tell him I have returned.”

The plea was small, and Keith hesitated. Maybe because he was measuring how bad this really was. Maybe because he wanted to ask more. Maybe because he had never seen her this frightened before. Still, after a moment, he linked Ethan.

Chapter 159

Camila stood there waiting, hands clasped tighter than they needed to be.

“Let her come to the room,” Ethan said.

So she went.

Inside the room, Ethan was lying in bed with Meadow beside him, and the television was on. They were watching a movie. The sight of them hit her harder than she expected. They were cuddled together on the bed, comfortable in a way that spoke of real closeness not arrangement. Not duty. Not distance. There was softness there. Ease. The kind that only came when two people had started becoming home to each other. If only she had brought good news. If only she had come there with something that matched the warmth of the room instead of something that threatened to chill it at once.

She did not know how to begin.

She only stood there for a second too long until Meadow linked her gently.
