Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1206

"Later, you're going to drive me to Mira's place,"

Gwen commanded.

"You want to go to Mira's house?"

"Not right this second. I need to see my daughter and grandson first, and change my clothes."

Gwen paused, plotting her next move. "I won't be long inside. Wait for me by the gates.

And remember, not a word to Miles or Sebastian."

The driver desperately wanted to refuse, but fearing another psychotic outburst, he nodded. "Understood."

He fully intended to dump this nightmare at the front door and invent an excuse to vanish.

When the luxury sedan finally pulled up to the grand entrance of the Quinn estate, the driver let out a heavy sigh of relief.

The second the engine cut, he practically leapt from the vehicle, ripping the back door open and bowing his head. "After you, ma'am."

Gwen took her time, elegantly stepping out of the car.

She smoothed down her designer clothes, scanned the manicured lawns, and lowered her voice. "Do the neighbors know I was committed?"

"Rest assured, ma'am, Miles and Sebastian kept a tight lid on it. Nobody knows a thing," the driver lied smoothly.

Even if the entire neighborhood knew, he wasn't about to trigger a meltdown.

Just as the driver was about to make his escape, Gwen issued another order. "Go inside and see who's home right now."

She seemed a little apprehensive about stepping back into her own house.

Unable to outright refuse, the driver nodded. "Of course."

He took two steps toward the door before his phone conveniently buzzed. He pulled it out, adopting a look of deep distress. "Ma'am, the house should be empty. You can just head right in.

You see, the boss is calling me, likely for an urgent errand..."

Gwen considered this for a second before waving him off. "Fine, go. It's not like I'm afraid of them."

Given the green light, the driver scrambled back into the car and sped off as if his life depended on it.

Gwen marched through the front doors, completely ignoring the startled greetings from the household staff. Skipping the shower and wardrobe change, she made a beeline straight for Eleanor's quarters.

"I'm... I'm not sure."

Gwen turned on her heel and strode purposefully toward her daughter's bedroom.

Inside, Seraphina was resting with her eyes closed. At the sound of the approaching footsteps, her eyes fluttered open.

Barely days post-partum, and emotionally shattered by Lawrence's execution, her complexion was ghostly pale, her body fragile and hollow.

"Mom. You're back."

Tears immediately spilled down Seraphina's cheeks. If she hadn't been so physically broken, she would have thrown herself into her mother's arms.

"Did that old hag cause your premature labor?"

Seraphina froze. She had no idea why her mother was drawing that conclusion and didn't know how to respond.

Taking her silence as confirmation, Gwen's eyes darted around the luxurious bedroom. "Where's the baby? Why don't I see my grandson?

And why are you here? You just gave birth—shouldn't you be recovering at the Lance estate?

Where is your mother-in-law? Where is Lawrence? Why isn't he here taking care of you?"
