Jordan paused, but eventually gave a nod. "Alright."
Whatever it was, since the past had resurfaced, he had to face it.
The three of them—master and disciples—were an incredibly tight-knit unit. Their bond surpassed friendship, ran deeper than blood, and went beyond romance.
If one of them had a problem, it was everyone's problem. Mira and Owen needed to gauge his stance on the situation.
If it were just the woman, it would be easy—make her pay and send her packing. The complication was the child...
"Let's do tomorrow. We'll finish work early."
The next day was Sunday, making scheduling easier.
Since Mira was a student, she had classes Monday through Friday. Her duties as Board Chair were handled online for an hour every night.
Starting this semester, dual majoring in finance and computer science had tightened her schedule even more. She ended up converting that evening work hour into study time.
Unless it was an absolute emergency, she pushed all corporate matters to the weekend. The headquarters staff adapted, working weekends and taking Mondays and Tuesdays off.
Before going to sleep, Mira thought of the old lady and grabbed her phone, wondering if Eleanor was still awake.
Soon, Eleanor's voice came through the line. "Mira, you're still awake?"
Hearing her voice instantly lifted Mira's spirits.
"I'm heading to sleep now. I just couldn't drift off without hearing your voice."
Mira teased affectionately to lighten the mood. She knew Eleanor loved hearing it.
"Look at how grown you are, yet you still cling to me."
Then, to change the subject, Mira told her about the mother and son who had shown up looking for Jordan, just for some light gossip.
After all, Jordan had little connection to Eleanor.
Yet, surprisingly, Eleanor knew of his past. "That woman came back? Isn't she terrified he'll end her?
She played him, ran off with his money, and crossed Jordan Ellis, the man they used to call the living grim reaper. And she still dares to show her face?"
"Was he really that intimidating back then?"
"Absolutely. Nobody dared cross him. There was once a wealthy businessman who offended one of his men. Less than a week later, that man vanished without a trace."
"He wouldn't just take a life over nothing, would he?"
