Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1140

"Mom, how could you do this?"

Sebastian finally broke down, tears spilling down his cheeks.

Eleanor kept her gaze cold. "I told you not to marry Gwen from the very beginning. But you did, and it ruined your entire life."

"How did I ruin his life?"

Gwen shrieked, unable to keep her mouth shut.

"Shut your mouth. Make one more sound, and I won't hesitate to gag you."

Mira snapped coldly. Gwen instantly shrank back, too terrified to speak.

Eleanor turned back to her son. "You didn't even have the spine to tell me before arranging Seraphina's engagement to that bastard, Lawrence. When I went back to stop it, your entire family opposed me.

Gwen threw a massive, weeping fit.

So I suppose I was just a meddlesome old fool, wasn't I?

Then you secretly rushed their marriage. This time, you didn't even bother giving me the courtesy of a heads-up."

"We did come to invite you to the wedding," Sebastian argued weakly. "But Mira refused to let us see you."

"You only came to me after everything was finalized and the wedding was already planned. You weren't asking for my opinion. You just wanted me to pad your daughter's dowry.

I was the one who told Mira to block you. I was sick of your drama and intentionally refused to see you."

Eleanor knew Mira had blocked them for her own well-being, so she deliberately took the blame to protect her.

Eleanor glared at Sebastian. "You still have the nerve to complain? Why didn't you ask for my input before agreeing to Lawrence's proposal?

You're nearly fifty years old. How can you be this foolish? Do you have no brain of your own, just letting your wife pull your strings?

Seraphina hadn't even graduated college. She was barely nineteen, not even of legal age, and you rushed to marry her off? Were you terrified no one else would want her? Or worried she'd never find a man?

Weren't you afraid of becoming the laughingstock of our social circle?"

Whatever. Do what you want. Just get the hell out."

Mira could tell Eleanor's heart was reaching its absolute limit; she just wanted them out of her sight.

Mira gave a sharp wave. The bodyguards immediately moved in, physically hauling the unwanted guests toward the door. Mira then turned, intending to help Eleanor to her bedroom.

"Wait," Eleanor said suddenly. "Miles, come here. I need to ask you something."

Mira realized Eleanor was refusing to let go of the very last shred of hope for the Quinn family.

The boundless, tragic depths of a mother's love!

The bodyguards paused. Miles walked over slowly. "Grandma."

"Tell me, what's your perspective on all of this?"

Eleanor sat back down in her chair. It was as if she had suddenly found a second wind, sitting up straight and fixing her grandson with a dignified, imposing gaze. She was staring at the sole remaining pillar of their fractured family.
