Sebastian was struck speechless.
"So, what exactly did you expect us to do for you today?"
Eleanor asked sharply.
"Mom, didn't you set aside a pool of funds previously? Could you loan it to me to bail Seraphina out? The Quinn Group's cash flow has been incredibly tight lately; we just can't spare the capital."
Sebastian swallowed his pride and finally voiced his desperate plea.
He had originally intended to ask Owen to pull some strings with his connections, but after the way the conversation had just unfolded, Sebastian didn't dare bring it up.
"What funds do I have? I already transferred my fifteen percent stake to Mira, and you know that.
I don't expect you to take care of me in my old age, and I expect you to stop eyeing what's mine."
Eleanor stated firmly. But then, a sudden realization hit her.
"Wait, what did you just say? The Quinn Group's cash flow is tight? Don't tell me you handed that money over to Jocelyn Lance to spend on Lawrence?
The Quinn Group is a massive enterprise. I refuse to believe you couldn't scrape together bail money.
When Seraphina got engaged to Lawrence, I tried everything to stop it, but Gwen threw a massive fit. Now that everything's gone up in flames, you come crawling back to me?
Let me be clear, Sebastian: I am not helping you. Say whatever you want.
You are weak-willed and let Gwen manipulate your every move. Even if I gave you my entire fortune, you'd manage to squander it all."
Sebastian looked thoroughly miserable. "Lawrence is our son-in-law, after all. With something this catastrophic happening, when Seraphina's in-laws came asking for a loan, we couldn't just turn them away empty-handed."
He finally admitted the truth.
Eleanor exploded. "Do whatever you want! Just don't come asking me for money, because you won't get a single cent.
If Lawrence is so wonderful, then let Seraphina stay devoted to him. He's in prison, and now she gets to join him. How fitting!
Sebastian's eyes went wide. "Mira, how dare you strike your aunt?"
"Mira, why would you hit my mother?"
Miles finally spoke up as well.
"Where was this outrage when Gwen was cursing Eleanor? A pair of ungrateful hypocrites, suddenly finding your voices.
Let me tell you something: not only will I hit Gwen, I will hit you too! The two of you combined couldn't even take me in a fight."
Eleanor's face was livid by this point. "Get out. And Sebastian, mark my words: from this day forward, I do not have a son, and you do not have a mother. We are officially severed.
As for the Quinn Group, it still belongs to me.
If you manage it properly, I'll let you keep running it. But if you dare use my assets to recklessly bail out criminals again, I will strip you of everything and leave you with nothing.
Try me."
