Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1114

"How much do you charge per day?"

James asked.

Though he didn't catch every word, he knew the Mavarians were joking around.

Still, he found it perfectly reasonable for Wesley to want compensation for his time.

"Not much, just a hundred bucks an hour, flat rate.

You get a free thirty-minute trial. If you like it, we start the clock. If not, we drop it and pretend this never happened.

Deal?"

"Deal,"

James agreed readily. He genuinely wanted to hear Mavarian history, especially since Wesley would narrate it in Javenaire.

These past few days had offered a rare pocket of relaxation. Their funds were safely withdrawn, securing a massive profit. All Mira and the team had to do now was monitor the market and enjoy the sights.

When they returned to the hotel that evening, Jude Vance gave Mira an update. "Vivienne Voss is still in the hospital. Word is she's in a coma."

Her mentor's informants only filtered through news that directly impacted Mira's interests; irrelevant gossip never reached her ears.

After dinner, Wesley actually started narrating the Romance of the Three Kingdoms in the lounge of James's suite.

Mira and the others joined in to listen. Wesley's foreign language skills were surprisingly fluent, keeping James completely captivated, while Harvey and Cyrus recorded the session on their phones.

Even James's two assistants were listening intently.

Wesley spoke for three solid hours, earning himself three hundred dollars.

He said gleefully, "If I knew making money in Javenaire was this easy, I would've come here every summer break.

At this rate, working five hours a day would match my monthly salary back home.

What a wasted opportunity."

"If you came a few years ago, do you really think you would have met James?"

"No, not Jared. He doesn't have the seniority yet, so I can't trust him with something this critical.

It was Julian Vance."

As mentioned before, Julian handled all of Owen's legacy business properties.

"So you handed those properties over to them just to keep them complacent?

To make them think you'd backed down and wouldn't go after them?"

Mira blinked, analyzing the situation. There was nothing more captivating than the young woman deep in thought.

Owen stared, entranced, instinctively reaching out to stroke her hair. He was hopelessly addicted to her perfect blend of strength and softness.

"Exactly," he replied.

"Those assets technically belonged to Richard Lance anyway. It saves people from whispering that we monopolized the entire Lance Family fortune. Besides, we don't care about that pocket change.
