The Wrong Brother’s Temptation

Chapter 178

Sienna

I woke to the low, rough murmur of a voice.

My drowsy brain thought I was dreaming something and thought of it as some background noise that felt more like a continuous, vibrating rumble against my cheek.

Then I heard a name so soft I almost missed it.

Elsa? Elise? What did he say?

It almost felt like the name of a girl. Which girl was he calling for in his sleep?

That single word was enough to make me break through the cocoon of sleep and force my exhausted, heavy eyelids to crack open a little.

He was still mumbling something incoherently. And my head felt like it was on fire, my body stiff and sore from sitting awkwardly on the hospital chair.

Soft gray morning light filtered through the heavy curtains of Connor’s room. The scent of him was soaked into the sheets, my skin, the air itself.

I lifted my head slowly, stifling a yawn and rubbing my tired eyes. Had I imagined that name?

I blinked rapidly and tried to focus on his lips that were moving a little, like someone talking in their sleep through gritted teeth.

My head was already half on his chest. I must have drifted closer to him in the night without realizing it.

But what was he mumbling?

I tried to push myself further up his chest. Was he in pain?

My fingers brushed over the bandaged torso and I felt his steady heartbeat under my ear which was strong

and alive.

Relief hit me so hard my throat tightened. Last night he’d been tortured and his blood had bathed the floor of the arena. Just the memory was enough to make me shiver.

I shifted carefully, pressing closer, trying to make out the words. The solid heat of him bled through the thin bandage, some of it caked with dried blood.

My fingers curled against his side without meaning to.

“Connor?” I whispered, voice still rough from sleep.

The murmuring stopped and for a second I wondered if I needed to call the doctor to check up on him.

“Connor, are you okay?” I asked when he stopped responding.

My eyes widened in alarm and I was about to shout for the doctor when suddenly his eyes flew open.

Before I could react, his hands grabbed my shoulders firmly and the world tilted. One second I was curled against him and the next my back slammed into the cool wall beside the bed, as he plucked me off the bed like I weighed nothing, like he hadn’t just gone through hell the previous night.

“Connor, what are you…” I began, the impact knocking the breath from my lungs.

He didn’t say a word but his eyes flashed golden and then his mouth crashed onto mine before I could even

gasp.

There was no soft morning greeting, no teasing or him calling me Speckles but just pure, raw hunger.

His kiss was brutal, all teeth and tongue and demand, like he’d been starving for days and I was the only thing that could feed him.

The warmth of his body, all the hard planes and angles of him were a beautiful contrast to the cold hospital wall behind me.

But I’d rather be sandwiched like this than see him bleed again.

My body reacted before my brain caught up as heat pooled low in my belly and I pressed my thighs together. A helpless little sound escaped into his mouth and I felt his grip tighten on me.

Goddess, he tasted like mint and want and something wilder.

I kissed him back. Of course I did. My hands tried to pull him even closer to me, wanting to med our bodies into one. My nails scraped the hard planes of his chest, the ridged muscle of his stomach. He let out a low, vibrating growl and the sound went straight between my legs.

“Connor…” I tried, but the word was swallowed as he deepened the kiss, one hand sliding down my side, over the curve of my hip, then higher again.

Fuck, I wanted this but he was injured and recovering. There were still bandages on his body, on his neck for Goddess sake.

I should be the one pushing him away, reminding him to take rest.

He still hadn’t said a word but his hands found mine and then he pushed them over my head, pinning them to the wall. One of his hand held them up in a strong grip while the other traveled down my body, skimming over my breast, brushing over my nipples that had hardened and were straining already.

But his hand continued to travel downwards, grabbing my butt before lifting the hem of my dress to pull one of my legs up.

Goodness, what had gotten into him all of a sudden?

Not that my body was hating it even if this should be the last thing on my mind given his condition.

“Connor, you should…” I tried again but in response the hand holding my leg crossed it over his waist and then went up in my hair.

A low, guttural growl left his lips, seeping in straight through my soul as he grabbed my hair and yanked my head up to expose the column of my throat.

I was already struggling to form words but then he began kissing my skin, starting from the chin and traveling downwards.

And I gasped in response instead of asking him to stop. I was losing this battle.

My hands stayed up, plastered to the wall above my head even when he let go and yanked at the sleeve of the dress.

This was…so different from the Connor I knew, the Connor who would tease and taunt and make me beg for his touch, for a release.

Some part of me could recall this was not how Connor manhandled me but then his large palm cupped my breast through the thin summer dress, thumb brushing deliberately over the already-peaked nipple.

I arched into the touch with a sharp inhale, forgetting what I was thinking.

He did it again, slower this time, circling the sensitive tip until it hardened further under the fabric. Then he pinched hard enough to make me gasp against his mouth. The sharp little sting melted into heat almost instantly, and my hips jerked forward on instinct.

“Aah” The moan slipped out before I could stop it.

He nipped my lower lip in answer, then soothed it with his tongue while his fingers continued their work of pinching, rolling, and tugging just enough to keep me on the edge of pain and pleasure.

His other hand shoved the hem of my skirt further up, baring my stomach, then higher still until cool air kissed my skin. He pulled back just enough to look down at what he’d uncovered.
