I stood there for a while, enveloped in his arms, forgetting the world existed. For a heartbeat, it was just the two of us.
“Speckles” I heard him murmur against my skin and I further pushed myself into the crook of his shoulder.
“The trial is not over yet, you can hug me later again” his soft and tired voice caressed my skin.
“Why are you letting this happen?” I asked between tears, still not ready to let him go.
But then I felt his firm hands on my shoulders as he gently pulled me away. “Because I want them to know I am not weak. And that you are not weak…either”.
He was speaking in a tight voice and I could feel the effort he was putting in. I hated he was in pain because of
“Don’t plead, don’t beg…just stay…”
“But…”
“Can you do that for me?” he asked, scooping my face in his palms that were covered in blood.
I nodded, wiping the tears off my face.
“That’s my good girl”
He murmured knowing well that it would cause me to chuckle despite the tears and it did.
Slowly, I stepped away from him, ignoring the blood now soaked in my dress and took a few deep breaths.
Elder Johanson was a sadist who was getting some sick pleasure out of making Connor bleed and making me beg and cry.
But not anymore!
I would somehow try to stay strong…for Connor.
“What a charming thing to witness” Elder Johanson dramatically clapped his hands together, staring at us wistfully.
“Oh, the charm of love and the rose tinted glasses newly formed couples wear…” elder Johanson sighed, looking from Connor to me as his smile sharpened.
“If your little PDA is over, can we get back to the trial?”
I bit back a very angry retort I had on my tongue and forced myself to reply to him calmly.

“Please continue, as you can see he isn’t lying because he is still in his human form”
He blinked, not expecting me to stop begging so easily but he nodded nonetheless.
“Very well, hope you will not let your weak human side show so much”
My mind drifted back to his question about my wolf. My wolf was fine now though it gave Connor a really tough time before.
So, I didn’t understand why that would hurt him now.
The tonic was working which meant my problem was fixed. My scent wasn’t bothering Connor anymore.
The only explanation that made sense was that Johanson was trying to paint me as unstable so Connor looked reckless for choosing me.
The old bastard was using my late awakening as a weapon, and Connor was paying the price in blood and control just to keep the elders from circling me, particularly Johanson like an angry vulture.
I swore to the Goddess whenever I awakened my wolf, I would give Johanson a taste of his own medicine.
The more he tried to crush us, the more he was igniting a need I didn’t have before. I had never wanted fame or the luna title.
Now, I wanted it just so I could protect Connor from this useless bullying and stand beside him to face Johanson and whoever else would use me as a weakness against him.
A soft, wounded sound escaped my throat. Connor’s gold-flecked eyes flicked to me for half a second as if reminding me to stay calm and then locked back on Johanson.
The elder smiled, thin and cold, and I hated him with every cell in my body.
“Speaking of her wolf, has her late awakening caused you any difficulty or distraction?”
If I had a wolf right now, I would have let her take control and shown him just how strong I was.
My gaze flicked to Connor, knowing very well he would have to lie through his teeth for this one. Because, this question was carefully framed and included past incidents as well, not just the present scenario.
Connor’s eyes blazed pure wolf-gold as another hard surge rocked through him.
A ripple of dark fur raced across his throat and vanished under the collar with a wet, painful sound. He crushed it down with visible, shaking effort.
Sweat shone on his bare chest as he gripped the stone armrest with all his might, ignoring the fresh trickle of blood running down his nose.
“Planned to lie again, didn’t you?” Elder Johanson chuckled and I felt like I was going to lose respect not just for him but all the elders in the werewolf society.
My gaze flicked to the other elders seated behind us, a few shifting uncomfortably in their seats yet none
