Chapter 17

It felt surreal and exactly like I had imagined cradling her in my arms so many times I had lost count.

She nuzzled against me, her warm breath tickling my skin as I kicked the door to my room open with a leg.

Not wanting to disturb her, I didn’t bother turning the lights on.

I set her down on the bed as gently as I could, and she made a small, sleepy sound of protest.

Dont go,she murmured, her hand reaching for mine.

I stilled.

SiennaI breathed.

Stay, she said, her eyes still closed. Just for a little while.

I should have walked out of my room and never looked back.

But I didn’t.

I sat down on the edge of the bed, and her hand tightened around mine.

You’re warm,she said softly.

You’re drunk.

Doesn’t mean it’s not true.”

Even drunker Sienna wouldn’t stop arguing. She shifted closer, curling into me, and I felt my heart race.

Sleep with meShe said and just like that, the walls I had painstakingly built around my heart started to crumble.

This was a bad idea. A terrible, reckless, completely idiotic idea.

She wasn’t inviting me to bed, not in this drunken state, and I wouldn’t even if she did.

But when she sighed and nestled against me like I was the safest place in the world, I couldnt bring myself to

care.

I slipped in the bed beside her and she placed her head on my chest, throwing her arm over me

I was hyperaware of everywhere our bodies were touching while she dozed off, leaving me to fend off all the unhinged thoughts on my own.

And then as if fate thought I had enjoyed enough, she suddenly whispered a name that was not mine

Aaron, she whispered.

The name hit me like a punch to the gut.

You know, she said suddenly, her voice soft and drowsy, You’re not as bad as I thought you were.

I raised an eyebrow. She might as well have crowned me the next King with that line.

I mean it.She turned to look at me, and there was something unguarded in her expression.

Yeah, well,I said, keeping my eyes on the road, someone had to make sure you didn’t get yourself killed. Its no fun banter with a dead body.

She smiled faintly. You’re still an ass, though.”

Didn’t you just say I was nice?I asked and she giggled, that beautiful smile that lit up her entire face.

I am drunk, sober me would never say that.

Good because you almost scared me with that line.

She laughed, the sound quiet and a little broken, and then her eyes fluttered closed. I resisted the urge to push the idle strand of hair fluttering over her cheek that she kept slapping at to no avail.

Look ahead. Pay attention to the roadI told myself and clutched the steering wheel tighter.

By the time I pulled up outside my house, she was halfasleep, her head resting against the seat.

I got out and walked around to her side, opening the door carefully.

Come on, Speckles,I said quietly. Let’s get you inside.”

She blinked up at me, her eyes unfocused, and then she placed a foot outside but stumbled and grabbed my jacket.

CarefulMy hand shot out to steady her and she wasted no time to loop her arms around my neck.

I can’t walkShe said and cocked her head to the side as I lifted her out of the car, and she immediately leaned into me, her head resting against my shoulder.

You smell good,she mumbled.

I froze.

What?

You smell good, she repeated, her voice drowsy. Like, I don’t know: Cedar and something else. Its nice.

I didnt trust myself to say anything to that so I just carried her inside, her body warm and soft against mine as I walked agonizingly slowly, wanting to savor each second of this.

Even now, even drunk and halfasleep in my arms, she was thinking about him.

I pulled back slightly, my jaw clenching.

I sat there for a long moment, staring down at her, memorizing her face.

I tried not to trace the soft curve of her cheek, to brush my lips against the lashes fanning against her skin.

She was beautiful but her heart belonged to someone else.

Seeing her asleep like that in my bed made my wolf go in a frezy.

Mark her. I want her!

Not yetI curled my fingers to stop from yanking the sheets off her body and giving in to my wolf’s carnal desires.

She is literally in our bed! I want to taste herHe roared in my head.

Shut the fuck up, Fang!I snapped and thankfully he retreated in the back of my mind but not without grumbling.

I was going to make her realize who she truly wanted. I was going to make her beg for my cock that was painfully hard right now.

She was going to be mine, heart body and soul. I had spent too much time trying to forget her so now I could truly keep her to myself and live out every fantasy I ever had involving her.

I was going to ruin her for Aaron or any other man she would dare look at. I was going to teach her the ways to sin and derive pleasure from it.

By the time the fake dating was over, she would forget Aaron ever existed.

Sleep, SiaI whispered as she stirred in her sleep. You should get used to sleeping and waking up in my bed soon enough

Then I turned around and walked out of the room because it was a curse to have her so close yet so far.

Alpha will make us marry someone else if you dont take her soon enoughFang was back to annoy me

I am not letting her go, not this timeI assured her and closed the door behind me.
