I lay there on the hood of the car, watching the moon and stars above me, feeling blissful and sated. I simply wanted to be stuck in this moment forever. I didn’t want to return to the real world, to all the complications it would bring forth.

Connor freed me of my bindings and then grabbed his robe from inside the car to throw it over me. The air was getting colder as the night darkened.

“Dont you want to return home?”

He said, his voice soft and his finger tracing idle circles on my shoulder.

I simply pulled the robe up my body to snuggle into it like it was a comfortable blanket.

“Come on, let’s go”

He meant to get up but I reached for his wrist, stopping him.

“Can we just stay here? For a while?” I asked and he gave me a gorgeous smile that made my heart flutter.

“Sure” He said and then climbed up the hood to lay beside me.

Somehow, it felt surreal, lying under the sky with him beside me and the moon watching us.

I snuggled closer to him, burying my face in the crook of his neck. Connor threw a hand over my waist, pulling me even closer.

“Connor” I murmured as I felt my eyelids grow heavier and the gentle sound of the river flowing turning into a lullaby for my ears.

“Hmm”

“Don’t wake me up if I fall asleep” I said and I felt him place a soft kiss to my forehead.

“I’ll try not to” He said and then I let sleep take over me.

I wasn’t aware of when exactly did he put me back in the car, drive back to the mansion or how he wrapped me up in his robes and carried me upstairs to his room.

I would have slept throughout the day if not for an incessant knock on the door.

I simply pulled the pillows over my head but then the door opened and I heard Maria speak softly.

“I am sorry to wake you up but Connor asked me to check on you by evening.”

“Tell him I died” I groaned in the pillow.

But Maria came forward and then pulled open the curtains and I was almost sure that the bright sunrays would kill my vision so I buried my head further into the sheets.

“Its evening already. I think you need to shower and eat a little.”

Wait, evening?

I scrambled up to look at the time and realized it was six in the evening. The bright and hot sunrays were nowhere around to blind me.

I had slept through most of the day. I looked around and reached for my phone, feeling certain there would be several calls from mom yet again.

But there was just a text.

Mom: Sleep well. You must be tired after all the preparations.

I stared at the screen, realizing Connor must have yet again informed her about my whereabouts. Ashford mansion was more or less my second home since childhood.

But earlier I would crash here because this was Aaron’s place. Not anymore…

I looked up at Maria who had already started making the bed.

And then I looked down at myself wearing a long night gown complete with a silky robe tied loosely around my waist.

I was wearing just that and also didn’t smell of sweat or other bodily fluids but the slight hint of the cool salve Connor had applied to me last time he had been rough with me.

I couldn’t even imagine how he did it all without waking me up because I recalled nothing about it. And I would be too embarrassed to ask how he put the clothes on me after last night…

The memory of our passionate sex turned my cheeks pink but then I also recalled what had happened before that and the bubble of happiness burst like a prick to a balloon.

“Where is Connor?” I asked Maria as I went to the bathroom to wash my face.

“He left early in the morning for some important meetings.” She informed me as I splashed water on my face and then dabbed it with a towel before brushing my teeth.

“Last night…didn’t really go well” She said and I whirled around to look at her, toothpaste foam still in my

mouth.

“What?”

I rinsed and quickly was beside her. “What do you mean?”

Maria looked around like the walls had ears and dropped her voice to a whisper.

“Some elders weren’t happy based on whatever happened last night.”

I bit my lower lip. This didn’t sound good.

Maria shrugged. “They wouldn’t tell me. It is above my pay grade dear. But I only heard whispers while serving breakfast to the elders and then doing chores.”

Shit.

I needed to talk to Connor. I dialed his number but he didn’t receive it so I was running outside when Maria called me out.

“Please dont tell me you planned to go in your nightrobes.”

I stopped dead in my tracks and turned around, realizing she was right. Elder Johanson would definitely scowl at me if he saw me like this.

“Can you pull out a decent dress for me? I will take a quick shower.”

“Will do”

I dashed inside, quickly stripped off the dress and saw the bite marks all over my body. They had faded from bright red to a faint pink but they were still very much visible and my body deliciously sore.

But there was no time to reminisce about that so I was out of the room wearing a long, full sleeves evening gown and climbing down the stairs in record time.

The grand living hall had been restored with its original furniture and I quickly looked away from the spot where Connor had spilled blood yesterday.

Though the hall was empty but voices floated in through the frontyard so I went there to see the elders all seated around the cozy tables I had picked for the outdoor seating, having tea together.

Sandra was serving Elder Johanson cookies and laughing at something he had said. I quickly reached their group and bowed to them.

“Good evening, everyone” I smiled at them but Elder Johanson’s smiled disappeared upon seeing me.

Elder Maren and Elder Kosta smiled back at me.

“Finally found the time to meet us? Yesterday must have been so tiring for you, right?” Elder Johanson threw a snide remark at me.

“I am so sorry, I overslept. Last night was overwhelming for me” I apologized but Elder Johanson didn’t seem pleased.

“As if you are the only one who were tense after whatever happened” He snapped at me. “Look at Sandra, she has been with us since morning, offering us food, refreshments and has never left her side while you comfortably snored in your bed.”

Sandra’s chest puffed a little at that line but I smiled at Elder Johanson politely. “I am sure she gave you no

chance to complain. And I ask you the same.”

Then I looked at Sandra. “You have been serving them since morning so you must be tired. Allow me to take over and you can relax a little.”

Sandra didn’t immediately deny it so I knew she was also eager to go relax a little. But she quickly put on a mask of servitude.

“It doesn’t feel like I was working at all” She smiled politely but then added.

“However, I also feel the need to go check up on Aaron a bit. I haven’t seen him since morning and he was also a bit stressed last night”

She murmured, looking for sympathy from the group. Elder Johanson patted her head.

“Its alright, dear. A future luna should divide her time equally between her alpha and the rest of her family. We will manage.”

Future luna? Had they made some kind of decision about Aaron taking over from Connor already?

Sandra bowed to him and to all in turn, completely flipping my script of taking over hospitality.

But I stayed put and as she passed by me, she stopped short, lowered her voice and mumbled.
