"Did you meet them?" Winona asked, stunned.
Forrest nodded. "I did. The DNA test confirmed I'm their child."
Winona froze.
So her theory had been completely wrong. Forrest wasn't Wynne's son after all.
"Are you planning to acknowledge them?" Winona asked gently.
Forrest shook his head. "From what they told me, they had a toxic marriage, fought constantly, took it out on me, and neither wanted the responsibility of raising me. After they abandoned me, they both remarried and started new families. The only reason they tracked me down now is to confirm I'm still alive, just to ease their own guilt."
Hearing his story left Winona feeling a knot of complex emotions, unsure of how to comfort him.
Noticing her sympathetic expression, Forrest smiled. "I'm not telling you this to get your pity. I just... I don't know why, but I felt like sharing this with you. Besides, my adoptive parents loved me deeply. I don't feel sad about being abandoned. Honestly, I'm actually grateful they left me; it saved me from growing up in such a broken, miserable home."
Winona murmured in agreement before they finally parted ways.
When she got home, Winona recounted Forrest's backstory to Stefan—though she deliberately omitted the details of Yulen aggressively harassing her.
Stefan's brow furrowed. Forrest was absolutely Wynne's biological son, which made him Winona's twin brother. How could a random couple suddenly pop out of nowhere claiming to be his parents?
Connecting this with the fact that Wynne's 'accident' was still an unsolved mystery, he immediately texted his assistant, ordering a full background check on Forrest's sudden "biological parents."
Taking a sip of water, Winona noticed Stefan deep in thought. "What's on your mind?" she asked curiously.
Stefan snapped out of it and smiled. "Nothing. I just think someone as exceptionally talented as Forrest couldn't possibly have come from parents like that."
"Maybe he just won the genetic lottery?" Winona teased.
Stefan raised an eyebrow. "Really? You think so?"
Between Winona and Forrest, their looks, brilliance, and natural elegance were all top-tier. The probability of an ordinary family hitting that kind of genetic jackpot twice was virtually zero.
Wynne's family had produced three generations of stunningly beautiful, highly educated individuals, and clearly, Winona and Forrest had inherited all of the Powell family's best traits. As for Sylvan... the less said, the better.
Just then, Stefan's gaze locked onto the faint red scratch on Winona's wrist. His frown deepened. "What happened to your arm?"
