Turning back to Stefan, Violet added, "The most crucial thing in a marriage is being on the same team. Some men talk a good game, but they come home and lift a finger. They lock their wives in a gilded cage while they go out and play.

"Then there are the men who treat their wives like thieves, hiding their assets out of sheer paranoia. A marriage like that is doomed to fail.

"In the old days, women would suffer in silence for the kids. Women today aren't stupid. Divorce happens all the time. Don't be one of those fools."

Violet had been married three times. She had seen every side of human nature.

When she filed for her first divorce, her family begged her to suck it up.

Stefan chuckled at the lecture. "I know. I'll have my lawyers draft a full asset list and a post-nuptial agreement. Everything under my name will become our joint property."

Winona blinked in surprise. "Stefan, your assets are pre-marital. I don't want any of that."

Stefan agreed. There was absolutely no point in telling Margaret. She would only throw a fit, so keeping her in the dark was the smartest move.

"She's always complaining that you're cold and ungrateful," Violet huffed. "But this whole family bends over backward for her. We're the ones constantly cleaning up her messes.

"If her kids are distancing themselves, she needs to look in the mirror. She's a total control freak. If you don't agree with her completely, she throws a tantrum. Watching how she's treated you kids all these years breaks my heart."

After saying their goodbyes, Winona and Stefan headed back to their apartment.

Fresh out of the shower, they curled up on the couch to brainstorm wedding ideas.

Two hours later, Winona stifled a yawn. "Even a small wedding has a million moving parts. Maybe we should just hire a professional team to handle the logistics?"
