He had a habit of focusing on her upper lip, kissing her slowly and meticulously, as if savoring a delicacy.
Getting swept up in the moment, she pressed closer against him.
When they finally pulled apart, their clothes were completely disheveled.
Stefan took a sharp breath and stood up, heading toward the bathroom to compose himself.
He was burning up.
Winona caught his hand. Her clear eyes, hazy with desire, stared right into his.
Unable to resist that look, Stefan leaned down and captured her lips again.
This time, she didn't push him away. She let him carry her into the master bedroom.
Everything that followed felt beautifully inevitable.
Her nightgown fell to the floor, and soft, breathless sounds filled the room.
He didn't take it all the way because they hadn't bought any protection at the supermarket.
Winona kissed his lips, her voice slightly raspy.
"I can help you."
He pulled her into another deep kiss.
The next morning, both of them woke up late.
When Winona stirred and reached out, the space beside her was empty. Knowing he had gone to the guest room to shower, she got up and went to wash her face.
Afterward, she walked over to his side to find him standing by the vanity, a towel draped around his waist, blow-drying his hair. The flawless lines of his muscles made her stare a second too long.
He smiled, set down the hairdryer, and walked over to kiss her.
He tasted like peach toothpaste.
Winona gently pushed him back, laughing. "We need to eat breakfast, or we're going to be late."
Stefan nodded and went to his walk-in closet to dress.
When he came out, he opened the fridge and started making breakfast.
Winona sat at the kitchen island snacking on some nuts, occasionally popping one into his mouth.
The doorbell rang.
Winona went to answer it.
A delivery driver handed her a small paper bag from a pharmacy app.
Rhea nodded, then conspiratorially pulled a tiny spray bottle out of her purse.
"A client gave this to me. She's stunning and constantly dealing with creeps, so she made this 'anti-fly' spray."
"What is it?"
Winona reached for it, intending to open the cap.
"Don't open it!"
Rhea slapped her hand away. "This stuff smells like literal death. I caught a whiff earlier and nearly threw up. It's like sour foot odor mixed with fermented sweat. If you get it on you, the smell sticks for a week and won't wash off."
Winona was speechless.
"The Lockes are a bunch of rats. I'll give you two bottles. Trust me, you'll need them."
Amused but touched, Winona accepted the unorthodox gift.
On Saturday evening, Winona arrived at Joanna's wedding venue.
Joanna had inherited a good sum from her parents and was a savvy investor, so she lived a very luxurious life.
Her new husband wasn't as wealthy, but he was a highly paid engineer who graduated from an Ivy League, and he was young and handsome.
Ignoring the Locke family standing nearby, Winona walked straight over to congratulate the bride.
