"We'll drive over right now," Yulen said immediately.

Winona’s mind was entirely on Greta. Shoving her personal grudges aside, she let Yulen drive them to the hospital where Greta had been admitted.

The pediatric IV room was packed with anxious parents and crying children.

Confined to her wheelchair, Winona couldn't easily navigate the crowd, so Yulen waded through the chaos. He finally spotted Greta tucked away in a far corner.

She was looking pale and completely drained as she slumped against a plastic chair.

Yulen waved Winona and Nikita over.

Then, he flagged down a passing nurse. "How is she doing?"

"Are you the patient's family?" the nurse asked.

Yulen nodded. "Yes."

"She's fully conscious and doesn't need her stomach pumped," the nurse explained. "We guided her through safe vomiting when she arrived. Right now, she's showing signs of dehydration, so we're starting her on an IV of glucose and electrolytes."

Greta had been sitting quietly, but the moment she saw Winona and Nikita, her brave front crumbled. Tears began to spill down her cheeks.

Winona’s heart broke. She gently stroked Greta's hair. "Don't cry, sweetie. I'm here. The doctors are taking good care of you. Once the medicine kicks in, you'll feel so much better."

Greta nodded, wiping her eyes. Then, her voice trembled with hope. "Why isn't Mom here?"

Winona hesitated for a second. "Your mom is really busy at work. She couldn't get away."

But Nikita couldn't reign it in. "How can I not say anything when I see my grandbaby suffering? Just wait until her mother gets here. I'm going to give her a piece of my mind."

In Nikita’s old-fashioned worldview, a household needed a man to anchor it. If Helena and Winona failed in their marriages, at least they would have someone to provide for them. Without a husband, their lives would hit rock bottom. She couldn't bear to see them struggle.

Yulen turned to Nikita, his voice smooth and reassuring. "Grandma, Aunt Helena’s job is incredibly demanding. How about I call the hospital administrator and arrange to have her transferred to a lighter administrative role?"

Though Nikita felt guilty for constantly relying on Yulen’s favors, her concern for her daughter won out. "Thank you, Yulen. I am so incredibly grateful to you."

"Grandma, we're family. You never have to thank me."

Winona, however, felt a spike of irritation at Yulen overstepping. "We shouldn't just transfer her without asking. We need to see what Aunt Helena wants first."

"What is there to ask?" Nikita shot back. "You're exactly like your aunt. If she really wants to work, she should find an easy desk job and focus on her home life. Making money is a man's responsibility."
