The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 997

Anne quickly ran up to Max, using her tiny hands to prop him up. "I'll hold Daddy."

Max shifted his gaze away from Felicia. When he looked down at his daughter, his eyes were brimming with unmistakable, tender affection. "At least my little girl cares about me."

He gently patted her head. "I can walk on my own."

"Be careful, Daddy."

Max shot a sideways glance at the woman standing next to him, offering a pointed reminder. "You be careful, too."

Felicia aggressively rolled her eyes.

Max's lips curved into a smirk.

When they reached the bathroom, Felicia unceremoniously hooked the IV bag onto a wall bracket. "Call me when you're done."

Max just stared at her.

Meeting his gaze, she snapped, "What are you looking at me for? Do you expect me to unzip your pants for you too?"

"Did I say that?" Max replied coolly.

Refusing to waste another word on him, Felicia turned on her heel, marched out of the bathroom, and pulled the door firmly shut behind her.

Anne was sitting perfectly still on her stool in the hospital room, watching her expectantly. The sight of her sweet daughter instantly melted Felicia's lingering irritation.

She walked over and sat down beside Anne, wrapping an arm around her small shoulders. "What are you thinking about, sweetheart?"

Anne looked up at her mother. "Mommy, can you please not be so mean to Daddy?"

Felicia let out a soft sigh. In the entire world, Anne was probably the only person who actually thought her father was a pitiful victim.

"I'm not being mean to him. I just wish your Daddy was even half as well-behaved as you are."

Anne blinked her big eyes and let out a soft "Oh," quickly accepting her mother's logic. "If Daddy isn't listening, then Mommy should definitely scold him."

Felicia smiled warmly at her daughter. Thank goodness Anne was such a reasonable, sweet child. At the very least, when it came to raising their daughter, Max had proven himself to be a wonderful father.

"Felicia."

Max's voice echoed from inside the bathroom.

Felicia stood up, walked over to the closed door, and asked, "Are you decent?"

"I'll watch Daddy and make sure he behaves," Anne promised.

Felicia gave a quick nod of agreement. Without sparing a glance at Max's scowling face, she strode purposefully out of the room, walking quite a distance down the hall before finally answering the phone.

It was the doctor's office, calling to remind her of her prenatal checkup scheduled for tomorrow.

Felicia certainly hadn't forgotten. Because of the recent heatwave, she had intentionally chosen this nearby hospital for her appointments. Thankfully, Max would be leaving very soon.

"I remember. Thank you."

Lowering her phone, Felicia placed a protective hand over her lower abdomen. She could only pray that tomorrow's checkup would bring good news.

Laying in his hospital bed, Max had obviously noticed that Felicia had deliberately walked far away to take her call. When she finally returned, he immediately demanded, "Who was that?"

Felicia ignored the question, countering smoothly, "How is your stomach feeling now?"

Max's dark eyes locked onto her, his gaze heavy with suspicion.

Felicia had no idea what new conspiracy he was dreaming up now. If he stayed around much longer, she wouldn't be able to keep her pregnancy hidden. She deliberately avoided his intense stare, and when he didn't push the issue, she shifted her attention back to chatting with Anne.
