The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 993

Felicia lifted her chin slightly, drawing in a deep breath to force herself to remain calm. She sat back down on the sofa, looking up at the man's stormy expression. "Max, can we please talk like rational adults? I do not want to fight with you."

Max glared down at her with pitch-black eyes. "Answer my question first."

Felicia finally realized that this man wasn't just domineering and aggressive. He was unreasonably, maddeningly stubborn.

"Whether or not I remarry is something I'll consider in the future."

"So you will remarry, then?" he demanded aggressively.

Felicia stared back, her voice matching the coldness of his. "Max, we are divorced. If I choose to remarry, it is entirely within my rights and completely reasonable."

As her words fell, the man let out a cold, mocking smirk. "In that case, I suppose I should start looking for a more suitable woman to be Anne's mother."

Felicia's eyes widened in sheer panic.

She watched as he turned and strode purposefully toward the bedroom. Springing to her feet, she rushed forward and grabbed his arm, her voice laced with terror. "Max, what are you doing?"

Max glanced back at her panicked face. "I'm leaving so I don't interrupt you cultivating feelings with other men. I'm taking Anne with me right now."

His tone dripped with biting sarcasm.

Felicia's fingers dug into his arm as she looked up at him desperately. "Do you really have to make things this ugly, Max?"

"What am I doing?" he countered sharply. "Or did you really expect Anne to just sit back and watch you parade around with Jeremy?"

"You think everyone operates the way you do. We are absolutely nothing like what you're imagining."

Max's dark eyes narrowed dangerously. He slowly turned his body toward her, scrutinizing the woman before him. "Then enlighten me. What exactly is wrong with me? How am I so different?"

Before she could finish her sentence, the man suddenly reached out, pulling her tightly into his arms from behind.

Felicia jolted in surprise. Surrounded by his broad, solid chest, his intense scent completely enveloped her. His voice dropped to a low, powerful murmur by her ear. "I won't force you. I'll give you time to think about it. We can start completely over."

His abrupt shift in attitude left Felicia completely at a loss for how to respond.

Max simply held her there. The apartment was so quiet that only the sound of their intertwined breathing filled the space.

An unknown amount of time passed before Max finally, slowly let her go. "I'm exhausted. I'm going to get some rest. I have to leave early tomorrow morning. You should get some sleep too."

With that, he turned and walked toward the guest bedroom. Felicia had already asked Mabel to prepare it for him earlier.

Rooted to the spot, Felicia watched his retreating back. The man seemed completely stripped of his usual imposing aura, leaving behind nothing but an endless, heavy exhaustion.
