The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 992

Felicia was about to end the call when Max's voice cut through again. "Where are you eating?"

His tone had softened considerably, no longer carrying its previous aggression. Even so, Felicia chose not to disclose her location, purely to prevent him from making a sudden, dramatic appearance.

After hanging up, she packed her things and stepped out of her office. Jeremy arrived just in time. "Ready to go?"

Felicia gave a soft hum of agreement.

A driver was already waiting for them downstairs. During the ride to the restaurant, Jeremy and Felicia discussed work matters for a while. Then, he casually asked, "How long is Max planning to crash at your place?"

"I'm not sure," Felicia replied. "But he probably can't stay much longer."

With all the urgent business waiting for him in New York, not to mention his domestic operations, he couldn't afford to vanish completely.

Jeremy nodded in understanding.

Halfway through the dinner, Felicia's phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen, and unsurprisingly, it was a call from Max. Whispering an apology to the table, she stood up and stepped out of the private dining room to answer.

"What is it?" she asked, keeping her tone perfectly neutral.

"I don't have any clean clothes to change into," Max stated.

Felicia took a deep, steadying breath. "You have nothing but free time right now. There's a mall nearby. You can go buy some yourself."

Her answer clearly left him thoroughly dissatisfied. "Have you ever seen a grown man go to a mall to buy clothes all by himself?"

Felicia's face hardened, but she forced herself to remain patient. "Then call someone to deliver them to you. I am busy right now."

"When does your dinner end?" Max pressed. "I'll come pick you up, and you can come shopping with me."

Felicia was utterly speechless.

Deciding it wasn't worth the effort to engage, she grabbed her purse and stood up to head toward the bedroom. Anne was probably already asleep. Just as she rose to her feet, the man spoke again.

"What will it take for you to remarry me?" His tone was incredibly serious.

Felicia froze in her tracks. She turned her head to look at him, her own voice carrying the same weight. "Max, marriage isn't a necessity for you. As for the Hawthorne family, I can never subject myself to them again. If you're only doing this for Anne, we can co-parent her. I will always be here to watch her grow up."

Max stood up, closing the distance between them. His piercing gaze locked onto hers. "How exactly do you plan to watch her grow up? Can you guarantee you won't remarry?"

Felicia's nerves pulled taut under his overwhelmingly dominant stare.

When she didn't offer an immediate, definitive answer, his face darkened dangerously. "Why are you hesitating? What's so hard to answer? Have you already decided to marry another man and have his children?"
