"Max is here with her right now," Felicia replied. "Anne is doing great, so please don't worry. She doesn't hold grudges. Give it a little time, and everything will be fine. Tell Yara not to take it to heart."
She knew Heather was plagued with guilt, and Yara was undoubtedly upset as well.
Hearing this, Heather paused for a moment. Knowing it wasn't her place to ask too many questions, she simply agreed. "Alright then."
Greg and Luke were scheduled to return to the Capital today. They had wanted to visit Anne and had bought some gifts that morning. Just as they reached the door and prepared to knock, they ran into Max and Anne returning from lunch.
Seeing Max there took both men by surprise.
Anne immediately called out when she saw them, "Uncle Darin, Uncle Luke."
Hearing her address them as affectionately as always brought a wave of relief to both men.
Luke looked at Max and greeted him. "Max."
Max nodded. "What brings you two here?"
"We were in a rush yesterday and didn't bring anything for Anne," Luke explained. "We brought some gifts over today. We'll be heading back to the Capital soon."
"What time is your flight?" Max asked.
"Four."
"Come in and sit for a while, then," Max offered.
His tone sounded entirely like he was the master of the house.
Mabel opened the door, and the group filed inside.
Luke and Greg handed their presents to Anne. There was a stuffed animal, a Barbie doll, and a pair of sparkly princess shoes.
Anne excitedly tore into the gifts. "Thank you, Uncle Darin. Thank you, Uncle Luke."
Greg smiled warmly. "As long as you like them, sweetie."
Mabel brewed some coffee and brought it over. Max and Luke engaged in casual conversation.
Max stared at him and asked, "And what about Willa?"
Luke stayed quiet for a long moment before finally answering. "Ivy told me Willa has a biological uncle. She belongs with her real family."
"So you want to help them?"
Faced with Max's directness, Luke found no room to evade. The biggest difference between him and his brother was that Max possessed terrifyingly sharp observation skills. Nothing could be hidden from him.
He didn't deny it. "Yes."
Max looked at him, not asking any more questions. "I can help you find him."
Luke looked up in sheer astonishment.
Max's gaze cooled slightly. "I find Jeffrey highly annoying right now."
Luke was thoroughly confused. What kind of conflict did Max have with Jeffrey Manning?

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
