Hearing his question, Mrs. Higgins glanced at Felicia, taking in her obvious desperation to flee. A look of disdain crossed the older woman's face. "The handsome man she commutes with every day, of course."
"And did she explicitly tell you he was her boyfriend?" Max pressed, his handsome face betraying zero emotion. Felicia glared at him, having no idea what game he was playing.
"They practically live together! If they are not dating, what else could they be? They seem very intimate."
Felicia was honestly amazed. It took a special kind of audacity to invent lies right to someone's face.
Max's expression remained dangerously cool. "So, she never actually admitted it to you?"
Mrs. Higgins raised her voice defensively. "Does she need to? Why else would a man and a woman spend all their time together?"
Max stopped questioning her and shifted his cold gaze to Felicia, who stood completely silent, her face pale with anger. Mrs. Higgins looked at Felicia too, clearly waiting for a dramatic showdown. By now, several passing residents had stopped to watch. It was hard not to stare at a man with Max's imposing height and striking looks, though his icy aura kept everyone at a safe distance.
"Cat got your tongue?" Max asked, his voice dripping with venom. "You act so tough with me. But I guess anyone can walk all over you."
Felicia's face hardened at his mocking tone.
Mrs. Higgins was confused. She had fully expected this new man to explode in a jealous rage and interrogate Felicia. She had been nursing a grudge ever since Felicia rejected her son. Just because she was pretty did not mean she was better than everyone else. Her son was a corporate elite, more than good enough for her. Having lived for decades, she felt she knew exactly what was happening. She believed Felicia was cheating on this handsome man, and now the real boyfriend had caught her in the act. She felt vindicated, thinking Felicia was a tramp who had no right to look down on her son.
Hearing this, the gossiping neighbor turned visibly pale.
Max scoffed. "You really do save all your attitude just for me."
Felicia yanked her arm, trying with all her might to break free.
"Felicia." Jeremy's voice cut through the tension. Felicia stopped struggling and looked over her shoulder to see him striding toward them. Max turned his head to look at him as well. The surrounding crowd watched the unfolding drama with bated breath. Mrs. Higgins was now completely lost. This did not look like a cheating scandal anymore. Thoroughly embarrassed, she wanted to slip away, sensing that this terrifying man was not someone she should mess with, but her morbid curiosity kept her rooted to the spot.

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
