The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 981

Felicia had been startled by the outburst and rushed over to comfort her daughter. Anne buried her face in Felicia's chest and sobbed, "Daddy and Mommy are not divorced, right?"

Felicia had stroked her hair gently. "No, we are not. Yara just heard wrong."

She had taken Anne back to the bedroom and rocked her until the little girl seemed to fall asleep and calm down. Only then did Felicia step out of the room. But Anne had not been sleeping at all. Instead, she had dialed Max.

Listening to his daughter's heartbreak, Max's eyes grew cold and sharp. He comforted her, deliberately dodging her direct question. "Do not overthink it, Anne. Daddy is coming over tomorrow."

Anne sniffled and agreed. "Then you need to go to sleep early tonight so you can come over early tomorrow."

"I will," Max promised. He hung up the phone, his expression turning thunderous.

At that exact moment, Felicia was leaning against the wall just outside the bedroom door. She had heard enough of Anne's muffled voice to guess she was on the phone with Max. She did not go in. She just stood there with her head bowed, her eyes growing red and teary.

Heather and Yara were supposed to spend the night, but after the disastrous incident, they decided it was best to leave. Heather walked back over to Felicia, her face tight with guilt. "Felicia, I am so sorry," she apologized again. She had failed to warn Yara beforehand, never expecting the child to listen in and actually interrogate Anne about it.

Felicia looked up, forcing her emotions back down, and kept her voice low. "It is fine. Anne would have found out sooner or later anyway."

Seeing Felicia look so defeated left Heather at a loss for words.

"Alright. Get some rest."

Inside, Felicia took a moment to compose herself in the hallway before reentering the bedroom. Anne was lying in bed, her eyes wide open. "Mommy," she called out as Felicia walked in.

Felicia put on a warm smile and approached the bed. "Since you are awake, let us go brush your teeth before going to sleep."

Anne nodded and reached her arms up to be carried. Felicia gently took her small hands and helped her sit up instead. "You are getting so tall, Anne. Mommy does not have the strength to carry you right now."

Being a good girl, Anne slipped out of bed on her own. Felicia helped her bathe, making silly faces to cheer her up until the bathroom echoed with Anne's giggles. Once they were done, Felicia lay down next to her daughter, softly patting her back. Anne soon drifted off to sleep, safe in her mother's arms, and Felicia just held her tight.

Early the next morning, Felicia woke up to prepare breakfast for Anne. She had just scooped a bowl of seafood chowder and set it on the table to cool when the doorbell rang. Puzzled, she walked over and opened the door. Seeing the man standing outside, she paused for a second, though she could not say she was entirely surprised.
