The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 980

"All she wants is a complete, stable family," Max stated. "I am preparing to give her a wedding. Anne can grow up by her side, and she can do whatever she pleases. Do you honestly think that is bad for her future?"

Darin let out a harsh laugh. "But it was your parents who forced Felicia to divorce you. The Hawthorne family cannot accept her."

"I admit that was entirely unexpected," Max replied smoothly. "As for whether the Hawthornes accept her, it no longer matters. My acceptance is all that counts. If I want to, I can petition the court right now to revoke that divorce certificate."

"You have not changed at all. Marriage is never just a one person decision. I strongly advise you against filing any appeals, unless Felicia willingly agrees to remarry you."

Max fell silent. The air between them grew thick with a tense stalemate. Darin offered one final piece of advice. "If you had even half of Jeremy's ability to see things from Felicia's perspective, she would not have accepted that divorce certificate so quietly."

With that, Darin turned and kept walking. Max stood frozen for a few seconds before finally catching up. Darin drove him back. Throughout the journey, they sat in the back seat, staring out opposite windows in complete silence.

When the car finally pulled up to Oakridge Estate, Max stepped out without a word. Darin offered no farewell either. Max gave him a fleeting look, shut the car door, and walked into the dark villa.

"Let’s go," Darin instructed the driver, and the car slowly drove away.

Inside the house, Max did not bother turning on the lights. Guided only by the moonlight filtering through the windows, he walked over to the sofa and collapsed into it. His entire figure melted into the shadows, his profile barely outlined by the faint silver glow. The massive living room was so quiet he could almost hear his own heartbeat. He sat in silence, lost in whatever thoughts were consuming him.

Time blurred until the sudden vibration of his phone shattered the stillness. He pulled it out, the screen illuminating his face in the dark, and answered.

"Today, Yara said that Aunt Heather and Uncle Darin told everyone Mommy is going to be with Uncle Jeremy. She said you and Mommy are divorced." At this point, Anne began to sob over the phone.

During dinner, Heather, Greg, Savannah, and the others had brought up the situation. Yara had been listening.

When the two little girls were playing later, things had been fine until Yara innocently asked if the divorce was true. Anne had flown into a rage and screamed at Yara, making the other girl cry.

Furious and overwhelmed, Anne had turned on all the adults in the room, shouting at the top of her lungs, "My mommy and daddy are not getting divorced! They are having a wedding soon! I hate all of you!"
