"He is probably busy preparing for your incoming retaliation," Darin replied.
A cold, ruthless smirk tugged at the corner of Max's lips.
"I did not realize your reach had extended this far. You surviving this time is purely a stroke of luck, a blessing from above. But you are not alone anymore. Stop putting yourself in these dangerous situations. Now is the perfect time to pull out."
Max's current operations were likely part of a long-term strategy laid out years ago, making it incredibly difficult to simply walk away. But now, he needed to start making plans for his future.
"I know," Max simply said.
As they were talking, Gavin entered the room carrying a bouquet of fresh flowers. "Max, you really are something else. To walk away from all that in one piece."
Max glanced at him, his handsome face devoid of emotion. "What, are you disappointed?"
Gavin laughed heartily. "How could I be disappointed? I was genuinely worried about your safety."
"Is that so? I am truly touched."
Gavin reached out and patted his shoulder. "No need to be too touched."
Their relationship had always been built primarily on mutual interests. If Gavin had died in an accident that day, Max would have ruthlessly seized everything he owned. They both knew exactly what kind of people they were. Because of this, their partnership would never crumble over petty grievances. Mutual benefit was often far more stable than so-called emotional bonds.
Gavin withdrew his hand and sat casually by the bed. "Look at you. Your first priority should be getting yourself cleaned up. You wouldn't want Evelynn to take one look at you and fall for someone else."
Darin stared at Max, his expression still showing little emotion. "Do you really think she is that easily swayed?"
"Well, Evelynn is certainly not lacking in handsome men around her. So you better stay alive, or she will end up belonging to someone else."
"Gavin, I think it is time you had a proper talk with Max about that eighty million dollar fund," Darin interjected smoothly.
Gavin looked over at Darin and smiled. "Yes, we really should have a proper talk."
Early the next morning, Anne was escorted off the plane and arrived at the hospital.
"I’m good. I will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow."
Only then did Anne finally relax. As the doctor resumed the examination, Anne stood close by, keeping a watchful eye.
"Daddy, you got so scruffy."
Max's lips curved into a warm smile. "Are you sick of me now?"
"I could never be sick of you, Daddy. You are still super handsome even when you are scruffy. And I am sure Mommy will not mind either."
"Mommy didn't come with you?" Max asked softly.
"Mommy is waiting for you to come home," Anne replied brightly. "You have to get better really fast, Daddy."
Standing off to the side, Tatiana listened intently to the exchange between father and daughter, closely monitoring Max's reaction.

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
