Dannie's expression remained perfectly composed, but her voice dropped to a heavy, accusatory pitch. "Evelynn, I don't believe for a second that you're oblivious to Jeremy's feelings for you. You can't let go of Max, yet refuse to give Jeremy a clear answer, so you just sit back and bask in his devotion. Don't you think you're leading two men on?" By the end of her speech, her tone was downright aggressive.
Felicia met her gaze with icy determination. "For someone who loves meddling in other people's business, you really lack self-awareness. Aside from relying on underhanded tricks, what else are you actually capable of? Oh, right, you're excellent at playing the innocent, kind-hearted angel in front of Jeremy's parents. You might fool them, but you can't fool everyone. Maybe I should have a long chat with Jeremy's sister about all the malicious things you've done in the past."
Dannie's face turned completely cold. A mocking smile tugged at her lips, though her eyes remained dead. "Do you honestly think they wouldn't see right through you? Do you think they'd actually believe your words? In your heart, are they really that stupid? That they would dismiss their own daughter's words in favor of an outsider like you?"
Dannie glared at her, her fists clenched in tight indignation.
"I suggest you abandon whatever twisted schemes you're plotting. You are only humiliating yourself," Felicia said dismissively. Without sparing Dannie another word, she turned and walked toward the door. As she reached for the handle, she paused, glancing back with a sharp warning. "My personal life is none of your concern. You'd do better to learn how to be a decent human being first."
She pulled the door open, only to freeze. Jeremy was standing in the doorway, though she had no idea how long he had been there.
The moment Dannie saw Jeremy, panic washed over her face. She hadn't had time to mask her hostility, and she stared at him with mounting dread.
Jeremy's handsome face was carved from ice. He didn't spare Dannie a single word or glance. Instead, his gaze softened as it landed on Felicia. "Are you done for the day?"
"I still have some work to finish," Felicia replied.
"Alright. Go take care of it."
Felicia nodded and walked past him toward her office.
Back in her office, Felicia sat at her desk, resting her head in her hands for a long time. It took a while to calm her frayed nerves before she could focus on her tasks. Once she finished, she packed her things and left the office.
Stepping into the lobby, she saw Jeremy waiting for her. He stood up and approached her. "Let's go grab dinner."
"Why don't we just eat at home? Mabel already cooked," Felicia suggested.
"I'd like to treat you to a private dinner today," Jeremy insisted gently.
Felicia hesitated for a brief second before nodding. "Alright."

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
