The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 1009

"Fine, call her right now." After Felicia's words hung in the air, the other end of the line fell into a heavy silence, save for the faint sound of heavy breathing.

Felicia turned sideways and sat on the sofa, her expression entirely frosty. She glanced up and noticed Darin standing near the doorway. Darin froze in place, his nerves suddenly tightening as a stiff, awkward smile formed on his lips.

Felicia looked away. Hearing no response from Max, she spoke in an icy tone. "If you aren't going to call her, I can go wake Anne up for you so you can have a nice long chat with her."

Another long silence stretched across the line. "Felicia, do you really have to speak to me like this?"

"Oh, and you speak so pleasantly?" Felicia countered with a cold laugh. "Am I supposed to just cater to your every whim?"

"I never asked you to cater to me. Would it kill you to just speak nicely for once?"

Felicia took a deep breath. "That would require you respecting me first."

A moment later, she hung up the phone and tossed it aside. Leaning back against the sofa, she crossed her arms and tried her best to calm her racing heart.

When she finally looked up, she saw Darin still standing there, completely motionless. "How much longer are you going to stand there?" she asked.

Darin snapped out of his daze and turned to retreat into his room.

"Did you call Savannah?" Felicia's voice stopped him.

Darin paused with his hand on the doorknob. "She's coming over tomorrow."

Felicia stared at him for a moment but ultimately said nothing. Darin quickly slipped into his room and closed the door. He walked over to the sofa, sat down, and pulled out his phone to dial Max's number.

The call connected. "Now that you're divorced, don't you think you should rein in that temper of yours?" Darin asked casually.

"I don't need you lecturing me," Max snapped, his tone foul.

"You're messing with my sister," Darin replied evenly. "If you were standing in front of me right now, I wouldn't waste another word on you." He would have just thrown a punch.

"Do exactly as I said," Max demanded.

"Understood."

The next morning, Savannah arrived bright and early. The way she stormed in made it look like she was here to wage war.

"Where is Darin?" Savannah demanded.

Felicia had not expected her to arrive so soon. It was barely nine o'clock. She had just gotten out of bed, and Anne was still lazing about under the covers. "He left early this morning. He said he had things to take care of."

When Mabel was preparing breakfast, Darin had briefly mentioned it to her before slipping out. Looking at the situation, it was glaringly obvious that he was actively hiding from Savannah.

Savannah huffed in exasperation. "He sure runs fast." She glanced at the roses resting on the coffee table and turned her head. "Are those from Max?"
