An unknown number, but that voice... it was definitely that bastard Jonah.
She sneered silently, crossing her legs as she prepared for battle.
"Speaking. Who's this?"
"It's Jonah Granger."
"Oh, and who exactly is Jonah Granger?"
"..."
Jonah frowned deeply, unsure if this Miss Jones was playing dumb on purpose. After a moment, he replied, "Vivian's boyfriend, Jonah Granger."
"Oh..." Chloe drew out the syllable meaningfully. "So it's the great Dr. Granger. What kind of freak storm blew through today to make you call me?"
At this point, Jonah was absolutely certain that this woman knew where Vivian was.
Suppressing his fury, he asked in a low voice, "I wanted to ask you, Miss Jones, where is Vivian?"
"How should I know?"
Chloe bounced her foot lightly. "You're asking the wrong person."
"Miss Jones..." Jonah was practically grinding his teeth, though he kept his tone reasonably polite. "I can't find Vivian right now. Could I trouble you to contact her for me? I will make it well worth your while."
Who the hell wants your reward?
Pfft.
Chloe rolled her eyes. "I really don't know. But a couple of days ago, she did tell me a story. Something about a sister stealing her older sister's boyfriend, and the boyfriend helping the sister try to kill her..."
"Ugh, maybe the story was just too touching, and she couldn't take it anymore."
Listening to the exaggerated tone coming through the phone, Jonah's breathing grew heavier.
Vivian...
She really did know everything.
Having dumped all her insults at once, Chloe slammed the phone down.
Jonah gripped his phone tightly, his eyes blazing with the ferocious intensity of a cornered wolf.
His assistant gulped nervously. "Mr. Granger...?"
What was going on?
The muscles in Jonah's jaw twitched. It took him a long moment to lower his phone before he roared, "Keep looking! Even if you have to turn Southampton upside down, find her for me!"
He stormed into the underground parking garage and got into the car.
He rested his hands on his lap and closed his eyes, trying to rein in his emotions.
The assistant sat in the driver's seat, too terrified to even ask where they were going.
Just as the tension in the car hit a suffocating low, Jonah's phone chimed.
A text message had come through. The sender was... Vivian.
