She subtly ran her tongue over her teeth, staring at him with bright, clear eyes. "Go to sleep. I promise I won't bother you."
Silas raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical.
But today actually turned out to be an anomaly.
Not only did Vivian refrain from annoying him or demanding to squeeze into the hospital bed, but she merely asked to borrow his phone to play games, taking it over to the sofa like a perfectly behaved guest.
Silas fixed his profound gaze on her for a long moment. His Adam's apple bobbed, and a few seconds later, he closed his eyes.
Though she claimed to be playing games, Vivian quickly found them boring.
She tapped through a couple of apps, lost interest, and exited.
Glancing up, she looked at the man resting in the bed. Quiet and stunningly handsome, he looked like a flawless piece of art.
She toyed with his phone in her hands, watching him in silence for a while.
Looking down, she opened his iMessage.
It was remarkably sparse.
Pinned at the top were two corporate group chats. Scrolling down, there were numerous unread messages he hadn't bothered to open.
She checked through his contacts and confirmed he hadn't added Grace Gifford back.
Good.
He was behaving himself.
Vivian's lips curved into a smile. She kicked off her shoes and lay down on the sofa. Since he was a wounded patient, she would do him the favor of giving him a peaceful night.
After making do with a makeshift bed, Vivian woke up the next morning feeling like her neck was practically broken.
The moment the first ray of sunlight pierced through the window, her eyes fluttered open.
Silas was still asleep.
He must have been truly exhausted. She walked over to the bed and studied his face for quite some time, yet he didn't stir.
"Keep staring, and I'll gouge your eyes out."
"..."
Vivian blinked, startled out of her daze. The man's eyes were already open.
She smiled and leaned down to inspect his bandage, relieved to see it hadn't shifted.
"Are you in pain?"
Silas looked at her. Catching the morning light, his eyes appeared as a luminous, striking shade of black, exuding an indescribable allure.
Simon rushed forward, his head bowed so low it was practically scraping the floor tiles.
Vivian took the clothes from him and shot him a look.
Silas asked, "Is everything handled?"
"Yes, sir. I've compiled all the evidence and handed it over to the police. The legal team is already on it."
"Good. Get out. Call me if anything comes up."
"Understood."
Simon let out a breath of pure relief and sprinted out of the room like his life depended on it.
Vivian resumed her battle with Silas's pants. During the struggle, she unavoidably... brushed against him. As the waistband pulled back slightly, she caught a glimpse of the edge of his patterned underwear.
She peeked twice.
"You..."
Silas swept a knowing gaze over her. Propping himself up with his left arm, he sat up, snatched the bag of clothes out of her hands, and poked her firmly on the cheek as he slid out of bed. "Get your mind out of the gutter."
Vivian: "..." Fine.
