After a long detour, Liam took Grace back to the hospital.
She got out of the car, looking at the man inside with red, swollen eyes, and asked hoarsely, "Liam, you tried to talk me out of it, but what about you? Can you really let Vivian go?"
"..."
Watching the woman walk away, Liam chuckled in sheer frustration.
Playing the role of the caring friend was completely useless; all it did was leave him feeling suffocated and frustrated.
He ran his tongue over his teeth, his long fingers spinning the steering wheel as he drove off in another direction.
Sterling Enterprises.
Construction on the Hillside Project in the north had hit a roadblock, prompting an emergency meeting of all top executives at headquarters to brainstorm a solution.
Everyone threw in their two cents, but the final conclusion was virtually unanimous—
The bottleneck was the Granger family.
"Mr. Sterling, that's Granger territory after all. Should we..."
The executive gauged the CEO's expression and probed cautiously, "Should we bring them on board? It's the most permanent solution."
The Grangers and the Sterlings had always minded their own business. For some inexplicable reason, that old man was dead set on making things difficult for them this time.
Since the path was blocked, they had to find a way to clear it.
They couldn't just shelve the whole project, right?
Silas lounged at the head of the table, his legs crossed casually as he leisurely twirled a pen in his hand.
Logan couldn't quite read his intentions. The Lawson family had spearheaded this project, but now that they'd hit a snag, they had to rely on the Sterlings.
Honestly, it made him feel a bit guilty.
But dealing with Jonah...
He really couldn't outplay the man.
Were these two titans really going to go to war over a woman?
He rubbed his chin, coughing lightly. "If you ask me, why don't we look into exactly whose palms the Grangers have greased? Backing down isn't an option. Are you telling me we can't get anything done without the Grangers?"
Smack.
Once Logan was gone, he closed the office door.
"Boss, are you really sure about letting Mr. Lawson handle this?"
"Our interests are tied. No matter what kind of bribe Jonah offered him, he wouldn't burn bridges with us completely."
Silas kept one hand casually in his tailored slacks. With the other, he gave the empty office chair a spin. "Instead of exhausting ourselves trying to dig up answers, it's better to hand it off to him. I trust he'll bring back a satisfactory conclusion."
Simon nodded. "Understood."
Just then, a knock sounded at the door.
Simon went to open it, silently stepping out of the room when he saw Liam standing there.
"Busy?"
"Not terribly."
Silas sat down in his chair, glancing up at him. "Are you here to check on me?"
"Of course." Liam casually picked up a book and flipped through a few pages. "But since you don't look too swamped, we might as well chat about how Vivian is doing."
