The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 316

Chapter 316

The woman was wearing a white dress, her hair half pinned up with loose strands cascading softly around her ears. Despite the sunglasses, her highly recognizable face was impossible

to miss.

Maintaining an aloof expression, she walked alongside a man into a private booth.

“Vivian, what’s wrong?”

Gregory followed her gaze but didn’t see anything notable.

Vivian smiled and shook her head. “Just spotted someone I know. No need to be so formal, Director. We’re practically friends now, just call me Vivian.”

“Hahaha! Deal, Vivian.”

Gregory’s eyes lit up as he looked at her. “If you say so, I’d be a fool to decline.”

After the initial pleasantries, Gregory brought up the idea of Vivian entering the entertainment industry again.

“If you’re game, you can be the leading lady in my next film. I’ll direct you personally. I guarantee you’ll be a massive star!”

“I should probably say thank you for thinking so highly of me, shouldn’t I?”

Vivian raised her glass and clinked it against his, sighing dramatically. “Unfortunately, I invited you here to discuss producing a show, not my acting debut. Can we steer the conversation back on track?”

Gregory paused for a second before letting out a hearty laugh.

“I just think it’s a tragic waste.”

His eyes were full of admiration. “With your looks and presence, not being on the big screen is practically a crime.”

“But if I went into acting, the business world would be suffering a tragic loss.” Vivian flashed a confident, poised smile. The banter flowed naturally, without a hint of arrogance. “What can I say? Brilliant people just succeed at whatever they choose to do.”

Gregory found her genuine and incredibly entertaining. He laughed out loud. “In that case, I suppose I should have total faith in you too.”

“Here’s the plan: have your team draft the contract, we’ll get it signed, and you can start right away.”

Things were going far more smoothly than expected, leaving Vivian slightly taken aback.

She eyed Gregory with a hint of suspicion.

“What? Is something wrong?”

Gregory adjusted his posture, striking a pose he clearly thought was suave. “Or have you suddenly noticed my irresistible charm?”

Vivian raised an eyebrow and smirked. “Talented people are naturally charming; I don’t need to search for it. I’m just curious. Half the industry is dying to work with you, so why did you agree to my offer so easily?”

“What’s the word I’m looking for?”

Gregory tapped his finger against the edge of the table. “Chemistry!”

“Sometimes you meet someone and you just click. You instantly know you’re meant to create something together, and that ‘something’ doesn’t have to be romantic. Look at us-we just locked in a partnership just like that.”

He spoke with total sincerity, making it sound entirely believable.

Vivian let out a soft “Ah.” “So you’re saying I got lucky?”

Gregory raised his wine glass.

“Beautiful lady, it is I who got lucky.”

Chatting with him was effortless. Before they knew it, they had polished off a bottle of red wine. Feeling a slight flush on her cheeks, Vivian stood up. “I’m going to run to the restroom.”

As she walked out, she unexpectedly bumped into a man heading her way.

From the moment she spotted them earlier, Vivian knew avoiding this confrontation was impossible.

“Well, well.”

Harrison flashed a wicked grin. “Who do we have here?”

“If it isn’t our beautiful President Fairchild.”

Seeing her brought back the phantom pain of the injuries she had inflicted on him, injuries that had only just healed. “Out having dinner with another guy? I heard you hooked up with Silas. What, isn’t he enough to satisfy you?”

Vivian glared at him coldly. “Did you eat garbage for breakfast? Your mouth is filthy.”

“You little…”

Harrison started to curse but suddenly remembered something, swallowing the rest of his insult. He sneered, “You actually think Silas is into you? He’s just playing you! Mark my words, you better pray you never end up in my hands.”
