Chapter 299
For a brief second, Vivian felt utterly exposed, as if there was nowhere to hide.
She forced a small smile and let out a sigh.
“What else could there be?”
Her sigh seemed to reach her eyes, filling them with an indescribable melancholy. “I was barely scraping by abroad. Marcus saved me.”
When Marcus had gone overseas to find Vivian, it was with Old Mr. Vaughan’s tacit approval.
Vincent knew that too.
But knowing Marcus’s personality…
Was it really just a simple rescue?
Vincent’s gaze deepened. “Marcus asked you to help him find Darcy back then.”
It was a statement, not a question.
Vivian gave a vague hum. “Something like that. But I just agreed blindly. How could I find someone he couldn’t even track down?”
Besides, the world was massive.
With enough money and power, it wasn’t hard to find someone.
The truly difficult part was when the person being searched for actively wanted to stay hidden.
Vincent nodded, a thoughtful gleam passing through his eyes. He didn’t press the issue further.
“You’re right. Let him drive himself crazy. But as for you… I told you to call me if anything happened. Why didn’t you tell me you caught that virus? I didn’t find out until you were practically discharged.”
“You said it yourself, it was just a virus.”
Vivian’s smile turned teasing. “I didn’t dare risk our esteemed diplomat catching it from me.”
“I could have sent someone to take care of you.”
“I had someone.”
“Silas?”
“Is that a problem?”
“Not exactly. I looked into his background and his reputation. As far as men in these circles go, he’s decent enough. I just don’t want you forcing yourself into anything. Understand?”
Vincent’s deep gaze rested on her profile. After a moment of hesitation, he reached out and gently ruffled her hair.
“My little sister never has to compromise herself for anyone. Not even a little bit.”
His words were entirely sincere.

So sincere that Vivian felt a lump in her throat.
“If you say that, what am I supposed to do when negotiating with clients?”
“Worst case scenario, shut the company down. It’s not like I can’t support you.”
“No way. I want to build my own empire.”
“You,” Vincent sighed fondly. “Alright, head back inside. It’s chilly, and you shouldn’t be out in the wind
right after leaving the hospital. If Marcus bothers you again, call me. Got it?”
Vivian agreed verbally, but she knew Vincent was no match for Marcus.
One was a gentleman; the other was a beast.
The winner was obvious without them even having to step onto the battlefield.
Back at the office, Zoe glanced at the jacket draped over Vivian’s shoulders but said nothing.
“Vivian, the first commercial shoot for Insignia Group is scheduled for the day after tomorrow, but…”
“But what?”
“The spokesperson they hired is Grace Gifford.”
It truly was a small world.
Vivian let out a scoffing laugh, continuing toward her office. “They can hire whoever they want. Just follow standard procedure.”
“The problem is, we can’t. Grace’s agent just called to say she’s sick, so the shoot has to be
rescheduled.”
Zoe’s lips were pressed into a tight line, clearly furious. “He also said… Miss Gifford claimed that if you personally paid her a visit, she might recover much faster.”
Vivian took off the blazer, hanging it over the back of her chair. Her face was entirely deadpan. “Call them back. Tell her she doesn’t need to shoot the commercial anymore. She can rot in her sickbed.”
