The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 291

Chapter 291

Vivian Fairchild snapped back to reality, instinctively wrapping her arms around his. “Silas…”

Silas Sterling lowered his dark gaze, his eyes sweeping past her face. “If you’re going to spout more meaningless nonsense, keep your mouth shut.”

“Oh.” She actually went quiet.

They headed upstairs.

Silas grabbed a doctor, tugging at his own restrictive collar. “Give her a thorough examination. Especially check if there’s any brain damage.”

“Right away, Mr. Sterling. We’ll get to it.”

Vivian was led away by the medical staff as Simon Young hurried in. “Boss, are you alright?”

“Where is he?”

“After Marcus’s car left, it headed straight to the airport. He took a private jet out of Northside.”

Private flight routes required advance clearance, which meant everything had been meticulously planned. Had he intended to take Vivian with him?

Silas remained silent. His striking profile reflected in the windowpane, his jawline tight, his gaze turning somber and dark.

“The background check I asked for. Is it not done yet?”

His voice carried the eerie calm before a storm.

Cold sweat prickled Simon’s spine as he quickly replied, “I just sent it to your inbox. Old Mr. Vaughan is Miss Fairchild’s grandfather. Marcus and Vincent are her cousins.”

A flicker of surprise crossed the man’s eyes. “Cousins?”

“Yes.”

But Marcus’s actions today hardly resembled those of a protective relative.

Silas let out a dry, humorless chuckle. “It seems your Miss Fairchild isn’t just someone with an unusual background. She’s hiding quite a few secrets.”

Simon was speechless. How was she *his* Miss Fairchild? She was clearly Silas’s.

He kept that thought entirely to himself, not daring to utter a word.

Lowering his voice, Simon asked, “Boss, should we still process the discharge papers?”

“Not yet. Let’s wait for the test results,” Silas said, checking the time on his watch. “Head back to the office and keep an eye on things. Call me immediately if anything comes up.”

Shortly after Simon left, Vivian returned from her examination.

Silas, having just finished reading the email, cast an unfathomable look over the woman before turning to the doctor.

Chapter 291

“Don’t worry, Mr. Sterling. Miss Fairchild just suffered a bit of a shock. Physically, she’s fine, though she did scrape her leg. I’ve treated it. Just keep it dry, and it will heal quickly.”

Silas nodded his thanks, watching the doctor leave. “A scraped leg?”

Vivian let out a soft sound. She opened her arms and took two steps forward, but the man anticipated her move. His warning glare stopped her in her tracks. “Stand right there and talk!”

Vivian mumbled, “Didn’t I already tell you?”

“Did you make it clear?”

Silas’s breathing grew heavy, his anger palpable. “Why did you go with him? What did he want with you? And where was he trying to take you?”

A barrage of questions hit her, none of which she wanted to answer.

Vivian looked at him with pleading eyes. “Silas, my leg hurts.”

Silas ground his teeth. “Then sit down and talk!”

She sat on the chair by the bed. Her parted skirt revealed her luminous calves. A patch of skin was scraped raw, the surrounding area red and swollen.

“What, are you making up a story on the spot?”

Silas’s eyes burned with intensity, as if ready to erupt into flames. “I don’t have the patience to play your games, Vivian. You’d better not lie.”
