The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 285

Chapter 285

There were hardly any people in the VIP ward.

She took the elevator down and walked across the lobby.

The polished wall tiles reflected her stunning curves, drawing frequent stares from passersby.

Vivian ignored them all. It had just been so long since she had seen a crowd that she found the sight slightly fascinating.

She walked into the garden and took a deep breath. Not far away, elderly patients in hospital gowns were chatting, and children were playing. It felt like she had been reborn, witnessing scenes she hadn’t seen in ages.

She wandered aimlessly for a while until she suddenly sensed someone behind her.

She quickly dodged to the side-

And turned around.

The man was dressed entirely in black. His baseball cap and mask completely obscured his face, leaving only a pair of sharp, predatory eyes exposed.

“It’s been almost four years, but you’re as sharp as ever, Vivian.”

The man’s voice was rough and gravelly, as if his throat had been scorched by fire.

Vivian’s breathing grew heavy as she stared at his face. Even though she had only seen those eyes a few times, she recognized him instantly.

Soren Vance, the loyal subordinate of Marcus Vaughan.

Ruthless and merciless, he never cared about the methods as long as the job got done.

She asked coldly, “What do you want with me?”

“Why ask a question like that?” The man sneered, the dark intent in his eyes growing stronger. “I’m here because Mr. Vaughan wants to see you. You claimed you wanted a peaceful life, so you should have stayed hidden. Since you decided to stick your neck out, you should have known this was coming.”

Vivian fully understood that it was only a matter of time before they tracked her down.

She just hadn’t expected it to be so soon.

Her hands, resting at her sides, curled into loose fists. The more intense the situation, the calmer she became.

Her gaze was completely devoid of warmth, her red lips curling up slightly. “I made it very clear to Marcus back then. I have nothing to do with the Vaughan family. We went our separate ways. What exactly should I have known?”

“Do you think Mr. Vaughan is short on money?”

“Whether he is or not, I paid him back.”

Chapter 285

During her time abroad, Marcus had helped her tremendously. But after her car accident, she left him a bank card with ten million dollars on it, explicitly to cut all ties.

The man’s gaze tightened as he cut straight to the point.

“Are you saying you refuse to come see Mr. Vaughan with me?”

“At least not right now.”

Vivian casually raised a finger. Her clean, unpolished nails bore pale, natural crescents. “If you’re thinking about using force, I’m afraid you won’t be walking out of here so easily.”

It was a bold, arrogant statement.

The man’s eyes darkened further, his voice as cold as ice.

“You’re awfully confident. It seems you’ve found yourself a powerful backer. Let me guess… is it Jonah Granger, or Silas Sterling?”

Vivian stared him right in the eye. “You’re not that stupid.”

“Silas Sterling it is, then.”

The man didn’t look particularly surprised. “I heard the little nurses gossiping just now about how completely devoted the boss of Sterling Group is to his girlfriend, taking care of her himself in the hospital for days. So, you’re the leading lady of that rumor.”

“That’s right, it’s me.”

Vivian openly admitted it. “So if he can’t find me in a minute, you’re dead meat.”

‘Dead meat’ didn’t just mean Silas would come after him.

It meant Marcus would.

The Vaughan family’s power was concentrated in Bayport. Marcus wouldn’t easily offend the Sterling family-at least, not yet.

But to her surprise, the man standing before her merely let out a cold laugh. Taking a long stride forward, he lowered his voice. “What a pity. I am taking you with me today, no matter what. Even if you’re Silas Sterling’s precious treasure, it won’t save you.”
