The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 26

She lowered her gaze, her eyes glistening so seductively they looked as though they might drip with water.

"With a body like yours, you're clearly not the celibate type."

In fact, it was quite the opposite.

A man with such extreme self-discipline would be utterly unstoppable once he finally allowed himself to indulge.

Three whole years without spending a single night together? How could any normal man endure that?

Vivian must be losing her mind with desperation, right?

The very thought sent a twisted thrill of satisfaction through Amara's chest.

She boldly took his hand and wrapped it tighter around her own waist, subtly guiding it lower.

"I like you, Dr. Granger. Want to try being with me? Just leave her. Please?"

The depths of Jonah's dark eyes seemed to swirl into a dangerous vortex, looking as though he could devour the woman before him at any second.

He didn't say a word, but the taut tension of his arousal was palpable.

No one knew what was going through his mind.

Even Vivian, hidden in the shadows, fully expected to be an unwilling spectator to a live-action sex tape. But just as Amara stood on her tiptoes to kiss him, he turned his head and dodged.

Amara's lips barely brushed past his jawline.

She froze, staring at him in sheer disbelief.

Seeing her eyes instantly well up with red, Jonah quickly explained, "Amara, your health isn't well, and I haven't officially broken things off with Vivian yet. Let's just wait a little longer, okay? I don't want to wrong you."

"..."

Behind the curtain, Vivian dug her nails into her palms, utterly speechless and struck by the sheer absurdity of it all.

Right.

How could she forget?

Jonah still needed her heart valve. At least for the time being, he wouldn't dare drop his facade with her.

Dominic was still out, the housekeeper was fast asleep, and the dim lights in the living room perfectly illuminated her escape route.

Once safely back in the driver's seat, Vivian gripped the steering wheel and finally took two massive, delayed breaths.

Jonah... you truly never cease to amaze me.

But on second thought, it wasn't a bad arrangement.

Trash belonged with trash. Letting either of them loose on the world would only ruin innocent lives.

She let out a cold, steadying exhale, fired up the engine, and left the estate.

That night, Jonah never came home.

Vivian didn't care in the slightest. She immediately had Zoe contact a specialist to crack the safe open as fast as humanly possible.

But before she even got the results, Amara came knocking on her door.

She glared at Vivian with burning eyes and cut straight to the chase: "Did you steal my things?"
