The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 257

Chapter 257

Whether it was flirting or teasing, it was only fun if the other person played along. But no matter how much Vivian provoked him, the man remained as unresponsive as a monk in deep meditation.

Boring. No fun at all.

“Silas.”

He ignored her.

Vivian stared at the ceiling, letting out an exaggerated, world-weary sigh. “Did you join the military or something?”

Silas opened his eyes but remained silent.

“That’s the only logical explanation I have left. I’ve never met a man with such a fortified mind.”

Truthfully, it made Vivian feel incredibly defeated.

It was like having zero interest in someone, but the moment they showed even less interest in you, your innate competitive streak flared up to compensate.

Which was exactly why…

Playing hard to get worked wonders, regardless of gender.

Vivian gritted her teeth. “But you have to keep your word. If you’re going to hold me while we sleep, you need to show the proper attitude. Otherwise, I’m going to tell everyone you’re impotent!”

“Mhm. Good luck with that.”

It wasn’t exactly that he wasn’t holding her.

Silas had one arm tucked under her neck. After her endless tossing and turning, half of her body was draped over his. But he wasn’t actively reciprocating; he might as well have been a wooden board.

As for whether he was impotent-

He didn’t need words to prove otherwise.

The night passed without incident. Unsurprisingly, when Vivian opened her eyes the next morning, she was alone in bed.

Ever since she started sleeping in the same bed as Silas, he woke up earlier than she did every day. By the time she went downstairs for breakfast, he was already leaving for work.

Vivian didn’t rush downstairs today. She stood by the window, gazing down at the driveway.

The man was the picture of unruffled elegance, dressed entirely in black.

That unmatched aura of sheer magnetism could be felt from a mile away. Simon Young respectfully opened the rear car door, and Silas slid inside, his long legs perfectly proportioned and powerful.

Soon, the black Mercedes disappeared from sight.

Chapter 257

With no morning meetings scheduled, she took her time eating breakfast and chatted with Mrs. Gable for a bit before heading to the office.

The moment she stepped into the lobby, she received a call from Zoe.

“Vivian, we have a problem.”

“Tell me.”

“News just blew up online claiming our company harasses talent. They’re saying we trade female employees for industry favors. That on paper we’re a media company, but behind closed doors, we’re basically running an escort service.”

Vivian: “…”

She frowned. “There has to be a source, right?”

“A gossip reporter claims to have a witness. I looked into it, and the girl does work at the studio we partner with.”

Zoe’s voice was grave. “She says the reason Harrison Fowler got beat up by us was because we couldn’t agree on a price.”

Vivian inhaled sharply. “I’m coming up right now.”

The morning rush hour had passed, leaving the elevators mostly empty.

Vivian checked her watch. Nine-thirty.

Stepping into the office, she found everyone gathered in the conference room. Police officers were interrogating the staff one by one, accompanied by personnel from other regulatory departments.

Seeing her jog over, Zoe lowered her voice. “It doesn’t look good this time. The internet is having a field day. We’ve never been this famous.”

More accurately, they had never faced a crisis this severe.

Vivian’s brow was locked in a tight frown, though she maintained an overall sense of calm.

Zoe was pacing with anxiety. “Vivian, what do we do?”

“A clear conscience fears no false accusations. Fake news is still fake news. Don’t panic.”

Now that the crisis had hit, the priority was solving it. Panicking would only cause them to mess up their own rhythm.

Zoe took a deep breath. She had already run through all the possibilities in her head. “It’s the Fowlers again. Looks like the Giffords and the Fowlers teamed up this time. You refused their buyout offer, so they strung the previous incidents together to set a trap for us. But…”
