The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 238

Chapter 238

Chapter 238

Martha was so stunned she couldn’t speak for a long moment. When she finally recovered and looked at Vivian’s face, the beautiful features were filled with playful mockery. It was impossible to tell if she was being serious or just joking.

“Miss…” Martha looked incredibly torn. “Um, how about we just cut two of the hydrangeas? Look how pretty the colors are, that beautiful blue-purple.”

“It’s exactly because they’re pretty that I need to clear out all the useless trash to make room for

them.”

Vivian gave her a look. “Dig them up.”

She was serious?

Martha was reluctant to destroy the flowers, but she also… had her own selfish concerns.

The young master had only ever brought two women to this house, and his true feelings were impossible to read. What if the other one came back?

Vivian could easily see right through her thoughts and smiled faintly. “Martha, why don’t you give Miss Gifford a call and ask if she still wants these flowers?”

Martha froze again.

Was she really supposed to ask that?

“But…”

The woman’s flawlessly sculpted face was almost too radiant under the sunlight. Her red lips parted as she added, “Since she planted flowers on my territory, she obviously needs to pay rent. Tell her that if she wants them, she needs to wire the money first, and we can even offer a premium dig-and-delivery service.”

Martha had never heard of such a chaotic way of handling things. “Is… is that really okay?”

“Why wouldn’t it be? Go on, do as I say.”

“…”

Martha’s eyes were full of apprehension, but she had no choice but to follow orders. Predictably, the phone call did not go well. Grace nearly had a meltdown on the other end of the line, and she certainly wasn’t going to claim the flowers.

Vivian let out an exaggerated sigh. “I guess we have no choice but to rip them out.”

“Miss…”

Martha wanted to say more, but Vivian shot her a glance, her beautiful eyes flashing with sudden, icy authority. “Martha, do you think I have no say in this house?”

“No, no… Miss, that’s not what I meant at all!”

Chapter 238

Martha was terrified and quickly scrambled to grab a shovel from the side.

She kept a close eye on Vivian’s expression. Sensing she wasn’t entirely furious, Martha lowered her voice and said, “I just thought… maybe we should ask Mr. Sterling about this first? Just so he doesn’t get angry with you later.”

“Do you really think that if I don’t do this, he won’t find a reason to be mad at me anyway?”

“Well…”

Vivian lazily picked up the shears and started trimming the hydrangeas, softening her tone. “Don’t worry. If anything happens, I’ll take full responsibility. He won’t come after you.”

Relieved, Martha followed her orders and dug up every last one of those flowers.

After cleaning up and returning to the living room, Martha couldn’t help herself. After agonizing over it, she finally offered some advice. “Miss Fairchild, you really shouldn’t constantly go against Mr. Sterling. If he genuinely gets angry and kicks you out, the loss would far outweigh the gain.”

Vivian glanced at her, asking casually, “Do you know him well?”

“I wouldn’t say perfectly.”

Martha poured her a glass of water, smiling as she replied, “But I’ve worked for the Sterling family for over a decade. I know a thing or two.”

“In that case, you must be very familiar with the history between him and Grace?”

Vivian leaned into the gossip, casually arranging her newly cut flowers in a vase as she asked, “So tell me, exactly how deep were his feelings for her?”

“Well, about that…” Martha’s face instantly became a complex map of panic. It wasn’t that she didn’t know; it was that she didn’t know where the line was. What was safe to say and what wasn’t? One wrong word and she’d drag herself right into the fire… She definitely didn’t want to lose her job over some idle gossip.

“It’s fine, just tell me. It’s all in the past anyway. It’s not like I’m going to go confront Silas about it.”

That was true.

Martha reluctantly agreed. “Alright then. What do you want to know?”

“There’s even a designated room for Grace here. Did she used to sleep over a lot?”
