Chapter 208
Vivian’s heart skipped a beat. She knew his intuition was razor-sharp, but she hadn’t expected him to pick up on something through a simple phone call.
But technically… this wasn’t really a relationship anyway.
“No.”
She denied it, her long fingers lightly tapping against the railing. She kept her voice even. “Le me know when you get to Northside. I’ve got some things to take care of right now, so I have to go.”
Ending the call, Vivian bit her lip and headed downstairs.
Maybe re-establishing contact with him wouldn’t be a bad thing. Whenever she needed help,
his side had never once let her down.
Yet…
Thinking of something else, her eyes grew noticeably heavier.
She picked up her pace on the stairs.
In the short time it took her to answer the phone, Silas had already stepped outside. Vivian looked out the window just in time to see Simon Young respectfully opening the car door, and Silas’s tall, imposing figure sliding smoothly into the backseat.
“Miss, your breakfast has gone a bit cold. Should I… heat it up for you?”
Martha Gable asked cautiously, unsure if Vivian still planned on eating.
Vivian murmured an acknowledgment and turned around.
“Mrs. Gable, has Mr. Sterling always navigated the stairs this smoothly since he lost his sight?”
“Yes, he has,” Martha answered honestly, though she looked a bit conflicted, knowing it wasn’t really her place to gossip about her employer. “But… Mr. Sterling is a very proud man. When he first went blind, his temper was terrifying. He’d lock himself in his room for entire days at a time. It took him a long time to adapt.”
He hadn’t adapted.
He just had no other choice.
A fleeting smile danced in Vivian’s eyes. “Alright, I understand. Go ahead and heat up the breakfast. Thank you.”
Before she had even finished eating, Zoe Hunt pulled up in her car.

“Miss, I’m here to take you to the hospital.”
Vivian took a slow, deliberate bite of her toast. “Is Jonah annoying you again?”
“.. Yes.” Zoe looked utterly exasperated. “Miss, he said if you don’t show up, the court summons will be delivered to the company by this afternoon.”
“Then we’ll go. Order a bouquet.”
“Understood.”
“Funeral flowers. White lilies.”
“…”
At eight or nine in the morning, the city was at its peak rush hour, the streets packed with endless lines of cars and hurried pedestrians.
When they finally arrived at the central hospital, Zoe hesitantly pulled the bouquet from the backseat.
“Miss, are you sure you want to take these up there?”
“Why wouldn’t I?”
Vivian snatched the white lilies from her. They were wrapped in nothing but cheap, transparent cellophane. “Three years ago, I survived because I was lucky, not because he went easy on me. Yesterday, I didn’t beat him to death because I respect the law, not because he didn’t deserve it.”
“Come on. Let’s go pay our final respects.”
Zoe wasn’t actually worried about Vivian doing anything to Jonah. She was worried that The Granger Family might be there, which would make the fallout a massive headache.
As it turned out, luck was on their side.
The VIP ward was quiet and practically deserted.
Vivian twisted the handle and walked right in. The massive hospital bed in the center of the room was empty.
She frowned, turning to step back out into the hall when she heard a noise from the balcony. A tall figure stepped into the room. Because he was a patient, he looked a bit more haggard than he had two days ago, and his head was wrapped in white gauze, though it didn’t detract from his striking features.
He looked up, his gaze locking with Vivian’s.
“Vivian, I knew you’d come.”

“Yeah. Had to make sure you weren’t dead yet.”
Expressionless, Vivian slammed the flowers onto the table. “I already brought your funeral wreath, yet you’re still breathing? What a letdown.”
Jonah’s deep eyes stared right at her, and to her surprise, he actually smiled.
“If I died, wouldn’t you just follow me to the grave?”
Given the Granger family’s absolute power, they certainly wouldn’t let her get away with just prison time.
Vivian stared at him for a long moment before asking coldly, “Did you call me here just sol could finish the job?”
“Of course not.”
Jonah was dressed in a standard hospital gown, his posture straight and confident. If you ignored his utterly punchable personality, he was genuinely nice to look at.
