The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 121

Chapter 121

Allergic to pollen?

Vivian Fairchild paused slightly, her gaze instinctively drifting toward him.

The man stood tall with an effortless grace, his profile indescribably striking. If he was allergic, why hadn’t he said anything earlier?

Oh…

Well, it wasn’t like he would bother explaining himself to her.

Vivian licked her lips and waited for him to hang up before walking inside with him.

Grandpa Sterling had been playing chess with George Caldwell, but he hurried over the moment he heard the commotion. “Oh my! Look who it is! The young folks are finally home”

Vivian smiled warmly. “Grandpa.”

“Good, good… my sweet Vivian.”

When his gaze shifted to Silas Sterling, the old man’s smile instantly vanished. “You can come if you want, but why did you bring this useless thing along?”

Silas sighed helplessly. “Grandpa.”

“Don’t call me that. I don’t have a grandson like you.”

Grandpa snorted, pulling Vivian further inside. “What are you craving, Vivian? Just say the word. The chef can whip up anything. Even if you want a state banquet, we’ll make it perfect for you.”

Vivian stifled a smile and shot Silas a look laced with undeniable smugness.

“I’ll eat whatever you’re having, Grandpa. I’m not picky.”

“Then I’m ordering Beef Wellington today!”

Grandpa paused, shaking his head. “Actually, that takes too long to prep. We’ll have it

tomorrow. The chef should be making short rib soup today. Let’s start with that and maybe add some shrimp?”

“Sounds perfect.”

The old man and the young woman chatted their way into the living room, completely ignoring the man standing behind them.

It was a refreshing sight. Even Simon Young looked highly amused by the spectacle. As he walked past Silas, he shot his boss a teasing look before happily bringing the gifts over.

Chapter 121

“Grandpa, we’ve known each other for a while now, but I haven’t officially gotten you anything yet. This tea set suits you perfectly. I hope you like it.”

It was a five-figure price tag-not outrageously expensive.

But a tea set crafted entirely from this type of jade was incredibly rare.

Grandpa merely glanced at it before beaming. “Of course I love it. If it’s a gift from Vivian, I love absolutely anything.”

He leaned in close to Vivian’s ear and whispered conspiratorially, “But of course, you know exactly what I want most. I’ll be waiting for the good news.”

Vivian raised an eyebrow, the implication crystal clear.

They made no effort to hide their little exchange. Their supposed whispers were entirely

audible.

Silas took a deep breath, a vein ticking dangerously at his temple.

He hadn’t found himself a wife.

He had found the old man a willing accomplice!

Simon Young read the murderous look on his boss’s face and decided it was time to make a swift exit. “Mr. Sterling…”

“Get lost.”

“Right away.”

With the two of them there, the usually quiet and desolate manor became lively. Vivian was a natural conversationalist, effortlessly keeping Grandpa laughing with just a few words.

Whether it was chess, fishing, or the classical opera playing on the TV, she chimed in seamlessly.

Looking at her face, Grandpa was momentarily transported, as if he were looking at another girl from long ago.

He let out a regretful sigh, his voice heavy with age. “If your mother were still alive, she’d be a highly respected artist by now.”

Vivian’s eyes

faltered for a fraction of a second before returning to normal. She asked softly, “Grandpa… did you know my mother well?”
