The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 11

Seeing Dominic Fairchild's face full of disbelief, Vivian Fairchild spoke with utter sincerity. "Dad, I am your daughter, after all. How could I bear to watch you overwork yourself? It's just a temporary transfer of assets. I won't mind."

Her gaze was dark and profound as she enunciated every word.

"Just as you said, you'd never do anything to hurt me, right?"

Perhaps that last sentence struck a nerve, because Dominic nodded repeatedly. "Good, good. I'll leave this matter in your hands, then. We should have more trust between us as father and daughter. Vivian, please don't let me down."

Vivian smiled. "Leave it to me. Don't worry."

I will make you regret everything.

——

The next day, Vivian headed to the office bright and early.

Zoe Hunt brought a folder from Fairchild Enterprises into the office. "Miss Fairchild, the chairman had this sent over. He requested that you sign it and bring it back."

"Is the messenger still waiting outside?"

"Yes."

Vivian raised an eyebrow, leisurely opening the document.

Inside was an incredibly outrageous asset transfer agreement. Not only did it demand a portion of the shares under her name, but it also required DR Cosmetics to inject hundreds of millions of dollars in cash into Fairchild Enterprises.

Dominic Fairchild... what a piece of work.

He was truly treating her like a lamb to the slaughter.

When her mother left this company behind, the will explicitly stated that upon reaching adulthood, Vivian would inherit forty-five percent of the shares and take over its management.

Dominic only held thirty-five percent. If he got what he was demanding in this document...

Vivian would completely lose her controlling stake in the company.

Did he think that since she was going to be forced to give Amara a heart valve anyway, he needed to seize everything he wanted before that happened?

His greed was absolutely revolting.

Vivian gripped the edge of the paper, grasping it so tightly that her fingertips trembled.

"Boss?" Zoe spoke up, breaking the silence. "Are you going to sign this?"

"...I'll sign it."

Why wouldn't she?

Vivian let out a cold scoff, tucking the document away as her voice dropped to a husky murmur. "Go tell his assistant that I'm busy right now. I'll deliver it to Fairchild Enterprises personally once it's signed. Tell him the chairman won't blame him."

After the performance she put on yesterday, even if Dominic was reluctant, he would still keep up appearances.

"Vivian, just do it for my sake, please?"

"Amara has been depressed, and it's taking a toll on her recovery. I've been working back-to-back shifts. If she gets better and leaves the hospital sooner, I can come back and spend time with you, right?"

His words sounded noble and considerate, but every syllable was entirely for Amara's benefit.

Vivian's gaze lingered on the screen for a moment before she coldly swiped back to her home screen.

Zoe returned after delivering the message. Seeing her boss lost in thought, she asked, "Miss Fairchild, is something wrong?"

"No." Vivian pulled herself together and pushed the document across the desk. "Take this template and draft an identical agreement for me."

Zoe was taken aback. "Miss Fairchild, you mean..."

A wicked smirk curled on the woman's red lips as she spoke in a haunting tone. "He wants to take from me, so I'll just take from him. It's only fair, isn't it?"

"...Yes! I understand completely!"

A wave of unexplainable excitement washed over Zoe. She quickly agreed and left with the folder.

Vivian slowly pushed herself up from her chair.

Now that her father's gift was in motion, it was time to visit her precious sister in the hospital.
