Chapter 109
Staring into his eyes, which were as cold as a frozen lake, Vivian subtly tightened her grip on the table.
She had chased this man for three years, yet she had never once witnessed this side of him-dominant, unyielding, and terrifyingly obsessive.
But it was abundantly clear that this was the real Jonah.
“Let’s hear it.”
She locked eyes with him. “What possible justification do you have for lying to me?”
Jonah leaned back in his chair with casual elegance. His innate arrogance made him a commanding presence in any room. Even now, with his secrets laid bare, he still didn’t believe Vivian would actually leave him.
“You’re right. I became a doctor for Amara, and I originally approached you because of her.”
Vivian nodded. “Appreciate the honesty. What else?”
“As for my family background… I didn’t think you cared about my status.”
“I didn’t,” Vivian replied frankly. “When we were together, I just saw you as an ordinary doctor.”
Even if the Fairchilds weren’t top-tier elites, her lifestyle was still lightyears beyond what a surgeon earning a basic salary could afford.
“But my lack of interest in your bank account doesn’t give you a free pass to lie to me, especially when… everything you did was for Amara. How pathetic do you think I am? Did you really expect me to just smile and stay with you after finding that out?”
Jonah fell silent for several seconds.
A flicker of genuine remorse finally appeared in his eyes. “I can apologize.”
“If apologies fixed everything, we wouldn’t need the police.”
Vivian’s voice was frighteningly calm. “Jonah, I genuinely have no interest in being with you. anymore. You’ve sacrificed so much for Amara. It’s obvious you’re madly in love with her, so go be with her.”
“Impossible.”
Jonah practically snapped the word.
His heavy, suffocating gaze pinned Vivian in place, his tone dripping with absolute control. “I have my reasons for taking care of her… Once we’re married, she won’t be a threat to your position. Why are you so hellbent on shutting her out?”
Chapter 109
Married?
Unfortunately for him, she already was.
But Vivian had no intention of dropping that bombshell on Jonah. Revealing her marriage right now would completely ruin her leverage-it was far too weak of a weapon at this stage.
“Mr. Granger, you certainly have a silver tongue. Leave it to you to make infidelity sound sp poetic and noble.”
D
Jonah’s face turned thunderous, but he bit his tongue.
Vivian pulled out her phone and checked the screen. It was almost eight.
“But I’m afraid I won’t have the chance to marry you. Like I said, I have a new boyfriend. You met him, remember?”
“Silas?” Jonah scoffed, openly mocking Vivian’s delusion. “The Fairchilds and Sterlings might have had an arrangement once, but your grandfather has been dead for years. What makes you think you even blip on his radar?”
“Because of a pretty face?”
“Or your broken leg?”
“Even if he’s entertaining you for a fleeting thrill, he’s just playing with you. Silas would never marry a woman like you.”
He reached across the table, covering Vivian’s hand with his own. His voice softened marginally. “But I’m different, Vivian. I know exactly how I feel about you. I can marry you.”
“And keep Amara as your pet?”
”
A flash of irritation crossed Jonah’s eyes. He couldn’t fathom why she was obsessing over this one detail. “I already told you I’d draw a line with her. Moving forward, I’ll just be looking out for her well-being. Why can’t you be a little more accommodating?”
Vivian stared at him with freezing detachment, choosing not to respond.
“…Fine, let’s drop it for now.”
Jonah was a master at navigating high-society theatrics. He swiftly compartmentalized his anger and signaled the waiter to start bringing out the food.
