The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 474

She watched helplessly as Adrian disappeared into the crumbling structure.

Risking his life, completely alone, for that woman.

Was this really the Adrian she knew?

The man who used to cower in fear at a single stern word from Grandma Lowell.

Now, he was playing the fearless hero.

Hah.

Audrey let out a cold, bitter scoff.

*Jocelyn!*

*I hope you rot.*

In a damp, chilling corner of the concrete floor.

Jocelyn was curled up into a tight ball.

It was the only way she could keep her body from freezing.

Her hands were bound tightly behind her back. She wanted to struggle, but she didn't dare exert too much force, terrified of harming the baby.

Eventually, she stopped fighting the ropes.

After leaving Sarah's apartment, she had been walking to her car.

A man had pressed a blade against her waist, his voice vicious as he warned her.

"Don't move, or I'll kill both mother and child."

He knew she was pregnant.

That meant this was an inside job.

How else could a random stranger know about the baby?

Could it really be Caleb Preston again?

Trying to drag someone down to hell with him on his way out?

Jocelyn felt a surge of deep regret.

If she had known this would happen, she wouldn't have been so stubborn and dismissed Kyle.

Julian had told her it was 'just in case.'

She had failed to guard against that very 'case.'

If Kyle had been there, she never would have been dragged into this nightmare.

The kidnapper suddenly walked in.

Jocelyn braced herself, maintaining her composure.

The man was wearing a surgical mask, hiding most of his features. The only identifying traits were his gender and a jagged scar near his right eye.

She stared at him intently, burning his image into her memory.

If he killed her, she would haunt this bastard for the rest of eternity!

Seeing her unflinching stare, the kidnapper grew uneasy.

"You're not scared at all?"

The man didn't bother lying.

"Yeah, it's him."

Jocelyn scoffed.

"He really is looking for some company in the afterlife."

"He paid me two million dollars to get rid of you and the kid in your belly."

The kidnapper dug into his pocket and pulled out a toothpick.

It was clearly used.

Without a second thought, he jammed it into his mouth and started picking his yellowing teeth.

Jocelyn grimaced in disgust.

"Taking you out is one thing, but I really can't bring myself to kill the kid. Killing both mother and child for a measly two million... feels like I'm getting ripped off."

"So you demanded five million from Adrian," Jocelyn concluded.

"Yep. Exactly."

"Didn't you know that Adrian and I are divorced?"

"Of course I know! That's why I'm gambling. I'm betting that your ex-husband will still show up to save you."

"And if he doesn't?"

The man bared his prominent front teeth in a chilling grin.

"Then I'm sorry, lady. I gave you a shot. If he doesn't take it, I have no choice but to end you and the baby."
