The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 507

The man walked quietly over to Jocelyn's side of the bed. He stood there for a long moment, his gaze unbearably tender. Gently, he reached down and tucked Jocelyn's exposed foot back beneath the blanket. Then, he moved to the sofa and sat in the dark for twenty minutes, silently watching over her. Jocelyn slept soundly, not moving an inch.

Finally, the man stood up. He walked over to Nina's side of the bed, pulled out his phone, and typed out a message.

[Can you keep a secret for me? Don't tell anyone I was here.]

Nina nodded eagerly. She couldn't help but think: *Wow, this guy is so handsome.*

Then, just as quietly as he arrived, the man left.

It felt completely surreal to Nina, almost like a dream. A breathtakingly handsome man had walked into her room, but he wasn't there for her—he was there for her sister. And the way he looked at her sister... it was obvious he cared about her deeply.

Wait. *Guy?*

He looked to be about the same age as her sister. If she called Jocelyn "Sister," but thought of him as an older "Guy" or "Uncle," wouldn't that mess up the generations?

The next morning, Jocelyn was woken up by the sounds of the hospital corridor. She had slept incredibly well, likely out of sheer exhaustion. Her phone buzzed almost immediately. It was Maria.

"Miss Jocelyn, how did you sleep?"

Jocelyn's voice was still thick with sleep, raspy and delightfully lazy. "Don't worry, Maria. I slept perfectly."

Hearing the energy in her voice, Maria finally breathed a sigh of relief. "I was a nervous wreck last night. I even called Mr. Vance."

Jocelyn's hand tightened around the phone. "Why did you call Julian?"

"Well, you wouldn't listen to me! I figured he could talk some sense into you. You always listen to him."

Jocelyn searched her memory. She hadn't received a single call or text from Julian.
