The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 508

Nina immediately ducked her head, pretending to be utterly absorbed in her book.

*That wasn't a dream,* she thought to herself. *Someone really did come in. But he wasn't visiting us, he was just visiting you.* She would never forget the look of absolute devotion in the man's eyes.

A gentle knock at the door broke the silence.

Jocelyn looked up and gasped in surprise. "Penelope?"

How did Penelope Sterling know she was here? She hadn't told anyone.

Penelope smiled warmly as she walked in. "Maria called Julian last night while Quentin happened to be standing right next to him. When Quentin heard you were sleeping at the hospital, he was worried sick. He asked me to come check on you." She set a large insulated bag on the table. "I woke up early to make some soup."

So Julian *did* know. Jocelyn bit her lip. She should have just told him the truth when she asked for the time off. Now he had to find out through the grapevine. What was he thinking right now? Did he think she was intentionally shutting him out?

Jocelyn pushed the anxious thoughts aside. "Penelope, let me introduce you." She rested her hands on Nina's shoulders. "This is Nina. Nina, this is my godmother."

Penelope's warm demeanor put Nina at ease. "Hi, Auntie," she said shyly.

Penelope chuckled. "Oh, sweetheart, I'm old enough to be your grandma."

Nina scratched her head. "But if I call you Grandma, then I can't call her Sister. She'd have to be my Auntie."

Jocelyn considered this. "Actually, maybe you should just call me Auntie, and call her Grandma. That makes more sense."

Nina shook her head stubbornly. "No! I want to call you Sister. If I call you Auntie, it makes you sound old."
