The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 585

A chilling wave of dread shot straight up his spine.

The guard whipped his head around, but the young man had already vanished into the throngs of people outside the hospital.

Refusing to give up, he took a few frantic steps forward, craning his neck to search the crowd.

"Walter, what are you doing?"

A cleaner, lugging her tools out the main doors, spotted the guard frantically searching the crowd and walked over with a curious look.

Walter Warren snapped out of his daze. "Ah. Just looking for someone."

"Who? The jerk who threw that pot out the window?"

Walter shot her an exasperated look.

"The person who threw it is obviously upstairs. Why would they be down here?"

The cleaner offered a good-natured smile. "Right, right. Silly me."

"But hey, Walter, is it safe for me to go sweep that up now? Another one isn't going to drop on my head, right?"

"Of course not."

Walter waved her forward. "You really think some psycho is tossing pots for fun? It had to be an accident. The lady who almost got hit didn't even make a big deal out of it. She obviously knew it was just a mishap."

The cleaner breathed a sigh of relief.

"Alright, I'll go clear it up."

"Make it quick," Walter urged. "We can't let a pile of garbage ruin the hospital's image."

That was the truth.

This was one of the premier medical facilities in Luminport City. Appearances mattered.

Humming a light tune, the cleaner briskly walked over to the shattered planter.

She had just bent over to scoop up the dark soil and ceramic shards when a sharp, rushing whoosh sounded right above her.

A split second later, a blinding, excruciating agony exploded across the top of her skull.

Drip.

Drop.

Confused, the cleaner lowered her gaze. Brilliant crimson blood was splashing onto the concrete.

"Ahhh—!"

Nora hadn't expected such a coincidence. She looked puzzled. "Is it going viral?"

She wasn't that famous. It felt surreal that Nathan found out about her near-miss before she even walked through the door.

"Because of the near-fatal accident, the clip is trending fast."

Nora finally understood.

"You saw it?"

The only accident involved the falling planter she had dodged.

But it was just a falling flowerpot. A simple accident rarely generated this much internet traffic.

"Yeah."

"Right after you walked away, a second planter was dropped. A cleaner took the hit. Her skull was cracked open, and right now, she's fighting for her life."

Nora gasped, a cold chill washing over her.

How could this possibly be a coincidence?

Two heavy objects dropped in the exact same spot just minutes apart?
