Nathan knew her well; once she made up her mind, she was just as stubborn as he was.
He finally nodded. "Then make it quick."
"I will."
Nora grabbed her purse, mentally ticking off her shopping list. She asked Nathan what he wanted to eat, then turned and walked out of the room.
The moment the door clicked shut, Nathan stared at the empty room. He hesitated for a second before pulling out his phone and dialing a number.
"It's Nathan."
He skipped the pleasantries the second the call connected.
"Is Mr. Locke around? I need a favor from him."
...
After leaving the hospital, Nora headed straight to a nearby restaurant to put in a takeout order, promising to swing by and pick it up shortly. Then, she walked to a nearby lingerie boutique.
She hadn't packed much when she moved into the Peyton Manor.
Valerie had hastily packed her suitcase without paying much attention to the contents.
Unsure of how many nights she would need to sleep in the hospital chair, Nora decided it was best to buy two extra sets of underwear.
She had the store clerk run them through the sterilizer, packed them up, and stepped out onto the bustling street to head back to the restaurant.
The area outside the hospital was always swarming with people.
At this hour, dozens of families were out grabbing lunch. Nora sidestepped a couple wrangling a toddler and was just about to step onto the crosswalk when a sharp, whistling sound tore through the air above her.
She instinctively looked up, only to see a dark shadow hurtling straight down.
"Look out!"
Onlookers noticed the plummeting object and screamed in horror.
In a split second, the already noisy street erupted into absolute chaos.
The moment Nora realized something was falling, she threw herself to the side. Without thinking, she grabbed the jacket of a clueless pedestrian walking toward her, yanking him out of the danger zone.
Seeing the young guy still frozen in shock, Nora softly added, "I have to go. Take care of yourself." With that, she turned and walked away.
The young man stood absolutely still, staring intensely at Nora's retreating back for a long time.
It wasn't until the security guard nudged him that he finally snapped back to reality.
"You alright, kid? Just in shock? Do you want to go inside and get checked out? It's right through those doors."
The young man shook his head. He tapped his lips, made a quick hand gesture, and turned away.
The guard watched him leave with a sigh of pity. "Such a handsome kid, shame he's mute."
He snapped a few photos of the shattered planter for the report, called for a cleaner on his radio, and turned toward the hospital entrance, ready to hunt down the culprit.
But the moment his foot crossed the threshold, he froze.
Wait a second!
Didn't that kid just have a conversation with the woman who almost got crushed?
