Sometimes, Nathan genuinely wondered if he was actually Harold's biological grandson.
He had never seen a grandfather play favorites quite so blatantly.
Nora picked up on the blatant favoritism as well. It warmed her heart, but also left her feeling incredibly shy.
So, when Nathan sat down, she waited until Harold looked away to sneak a sandwich onto his plate.
Catching his amused gaze, she blushed and murmured, "A little bit won't hurt."
He smiled. "Alright, whatever you say."
He picked up the sandwich and took a bite.
He didn't look like he was eating a simple sandwich; he looked like he was savoring a Michelin-starred delicacy.
Harold, who seemed oblivious but was secretly reveling in their sweet interaction, beamed with delight.
Not wanting to embarrass Nora, he pulled out his phone and pretended to reply to a message.
"By the way, Grandpa, when is Granduncle Arthur leaving?"
Surprised by the sudden shift in topic, Harold paused and looked up. "Why do you ask?"
Nathan's expression darkened as he recounted the events of the previous night.
Upon hearing that Arthur Peyton had actually tried to use him as a chauffeur, Harold's face grew equally grim.
"Does the man not have his own driver? Or a phone to call a cab? Why would he demand that you pick him up?"
It was true that Nathan was the younger generation.
But even Harold wouldn't order his grandson around like a taxi service, so what right did Arthur have?
They weren't even that close. And didn't Arthur even bother to ask where he was before making demands?
Knowing full well he was a cop, didn't it occur to Arthur that calling at that hour might interfere with his work or ruin his rare time off?
Harold undoubtedly wanted to maintain peaceful family ties.
And he and Arthur did have a decent relationship.
Nathan frowned.
Seeing his grandson's stubborn refusal to engage, Harold actually started to get a little angry.
"I've let you stay out of family politics, but she's going to be my granddaughter-in-law. What's wrong with me giving her a heads-up about our history?"
Seeing an argument brewing over her, Nora reached out and placed a hand on Nathan's arm.
Feeling her touch, he turned to look at her.
She gave a tiny shake of her head. He understood the silent plea. After holding her gaze for a moment, he let out a soft huff and looked away, remaining silent.
Nora felt a wave of helpless amusement.
She never expected the usually calm and collected detective to have such a stubborn streak.
She wanted to laugh but managed to suppress it.
Seeing that Harold still looked irritated, she took the initiative. "Go ahead, Grandpa. I'm actually a little curious about Granduncle Arthur anyway."
