Nora had assumed Harold would send one of the household staff to drop off their fresh clothes.

She hadn't expected Valerie to be the one walking through the door.

And Julian was right behind her.

Seeing the two of them arrive together, Nora immediately sat up on the sofa.

"What are you guys doing here?"

She quickly smoothed out the wrinkles in her shirt.

From the hospital bed, Nathan narrowed his eyes, his gaze locking onto Julian.

Julian ignored him entirely, his attention fixed on Nora with obvious scrutiny.

That look rubbed Nathan the wrong way, and his expression hardened into something far more severe.

Valerie, completely oblivious to the sudden tension in the room, dropped the two duffel bags on the floor and grabbed Nora's hands, checking her over from head to toe.

Nora laughed at the fuss. "What are you doing? I told you on the phone I was fine."

Valerie nodded, brutally honest as always. "I was worried!"

"I needed to see for myself before I could breathe again."

Once she was certain Nora was in one piece, Valerie let out a heavy sigh of relief.

"You scared me half to death."

"You've had the absolute worst luck lately. You seriously need to get some good karma going."

Knowing her friend meant well, Nora didn't argue and simply agreed.

Valerie finally seemed to notice Nathan.

"Is the Captain alright? This isn't going to delay the wedding, is it?"

Nathan shot her a flat look. "No."

Valerie hummed in acknowledgment.

Keeping a polite distance from her best friend's fiancé was standard protocol, so she didn't press him further. Instead, she pulled Nora aside to ask about the guy who poisoned himself with Paraquat.

"Don't sweat it."

"Oh, right, Harold will probably bring this up tomorrow, but I'll give you a heads-up now."

"We're going in for your wedding dress fitting this weekend."

Nora froze.

The wedding was fast approaching, yet as the bride, she hadn't quite shifted into that mindset yet.

"Why that look? Don't tell me you're too busy."

Valerie patted her shoulder. "This is the biggest day of your life. It takes priority. I don't care if the President himself calls you in, you are showing up for that fitting."

Nora laughed, utterly defeated. "I never said I wasn't going."

"Good."

Valerie added, "The bridesmaids' dresses are ready too. Since you added two extra bridesmaids at the last minute, they had to rush the alterations. Make sure you bring Julia with you."

Nora had already extended the invitation for Julia to join the bridal party.
